How do I play levels?
- The main objective of each level is to prevent zombies from reaching your house and eating your brains. This is done by strategically choosing your plant team, placing plants on the yard, then merging into more powerful plants to defeat the zombies. The faster you defeat the zombies, the higher your scores will be.
- Sun is required to plant new plants. Get Sun from:
- Sunflowers, which regularly generate Sun.
- Merged plants that use Sunflower as their base, which produce Sun through different mechanics.
- Catching Sun that falls from the sky.
- After a plant is placed on the board, there is a short cooldown before you can plant the same plant again. Different plants have different cooldown timers.
- In each battle you will encounter several different types of zombies, each with skills and health. Some zombies can endure more damage than others; specific zombies are best defeated by specific plants.
- If you struggle on a level, read the Almanac to learn about how to defeat certain zombies or check the Zombie Hazards before a level to learn if you should upgrade your plants to become stronger.
How do I unlock new plants?
You can unlock plants in the Almanac by collecting their Seeds:
- Seeds can be earned from harvesting Plants in the Zen Garden. Higher tier plants award more Seeds.
- Wild Seeds can be earned in special circumstances or purchased. These Seeds can be used to unlock any plant type.
- Lower tier plants need fewer Seeds, while higher tier plants require more.
- To unlock a hybrid or higher tier plant, you will need its base plants’ Seeds.
How do I upgrade plants?
You can make your plants stronger by upgrading them with Coins, XP, Meteorite Shards, and Meteorite Chunks.
- Leveling up a plant increases its power.
- Every level requires Coins and XP. The higher the plant level, the more Coins and XP are required for the next upgrade.
- Levels 5 and 10 require Meteorite Shards and levels 15 and 20 require Meteorite Chunks.
- Level 5 and 15 unlock new abilities for plants. Levels 10 and 20 significantly increase your plant’s power.
What are Adventures, Lawn Patrols, and Expeditions?
These are the three main game modes in Plants vs Zombies 3.
- Adventures are the starting point. Defend your lawn across different environments and overcome new zombies Dr. Zomboss throws your way. Adventures are a great way to earn XP and Coins.

Yes. You can replay any Adventure, Lawn Patrol, or Expedition level. However, you will only receive level complete rewards for the first time you beat that level.
What are some tips for winning levels?
Level difficulty gradually increases in Adventures, Lawn Patrols, and Expeditions. Here are some tips for beating hard levels:
- Plant plants in the Sunflower family as early as possible to get more Sun generated early on.
- Merged plants always start at full health, even if the plants used to create them are damaged. Merge a damaged plant to “heal” it and extend your plant’s life.
- Try planting Wall-Nut in front of high sun-cost plants to protect them.
- Some plants may counter zombies in unique ways, don’t be afraid to experiment!
- Check the Almanac to see how to make specific plants and what plants are zombies weak against.
What are the tips for when playing the game?
- Defeat zombies as soon as possible to get higher scores. The sooner you vanquish them, the more points they are worth!
- Plants must be in the same tier in order to merge them.
- Check the Almanac to see how to make specific plants and what plants are zombies weak against.
- You must unlock a plant before you can use merge to create it.
- Plants can be merged twice, from tier 1 to tier 2, and from tier 2 to tier 3.
- You can merge two plants together from anywhere on the board. Use this to reposition strategically.
- Join a Community and contribute to the Neighborville Watch to get better rewards that will help you upgrade your plants faster.
What happens if I have completed all the levels?
Congratulations on beating all the zombies in all the levels! New levels will be added with each release. In the meantime, please feel free to replay fun levels.
