Re: Upgrades Discussion: GW2 Upgrades!

One of the things I loved about GW2 was how they changed the upgrade system. in GW they were randomly acquired out of packs and each character/variant had 3 of them assigned to them, so you got those 3 and that was it. It worked but it wasn't great and the lack of choice meant that we didn't have any agency there.

I would like to see the next game use BfN's point system to avoid people using the same 3 upgrades on the same characters all the time like we have in GW2, with upgrades like faster regen out of combat taking a slot that more ammo, or faster reload, or more damage would take up, you only use the weaker ones like that when you haven't leveled up enough to have more options.

We can discuss that more once we get the BfN upgrade post of course. But to me, the idea of BfN's point values for upgrades to make weaker ones cheaper and more powerful ones more expensive is a great idea, it just needed to have better options, they need more visual and audio cues, shouldn't replace variants, and need to have fewer throw away and must have upgrades.

I will work on discussing the Legendary Upgrades in Battle for Neighborville as my next post, although I am working on a guide first that will not take me too long to create!

The weapon upgrades from Garden Warfare seemed fine to me, although I am not a fan personally of the upgrades being fixed. Most of the upgrades seemed useful, such as automatically having more ammo, better reload or extra damage, although there was not as much variety as you would be restricted to those upgrades.

Garden Warfare 2 provided us with more choice. A lot of these characters get the same kinds of upgrades, but I do not mind too much as it is easier to select which upgrades I like to use. The more unique upgrades though are really cool, as the upgrades exclusive to elemental variants. I do personally think that electric variants should have gained a unique upgrade, such as being able to electrify more enemies per hit or something.

Battle for Neighborville really expanded on this again, having plenty of unique upgrades on every character (10 to be exact, if you exclude Legendary Upgrades). I like the way the upgrade system works, with the more powerful upgrades costing more. I would have liked to seen a way to increase your total upgrade points on a character (not by a huge amount though) so you can have more points at once. Although, some of the upgrades in Battle for Neighborville should have been more balanced.
