Finale discussion: Moon Base Z

Moon base Z finale

After discovering a rare crystal named zecranium on the moon, Dr. Zomboss created a giant magnet with a plan to pull the earth into a solar eclipse robbing plants of their photosynthesis. Can the plants stop his mad scheme?

After capturing the processing facility, the plants must proceed to the space thingy and shoot out the tubes carrying the magnetic balls similar to how the golf ball must be shot off the club house before the minigame can truly begin. Magnetic balls will fall out and must be escorted to their respective goals. When the balls are activated by a team they will turn green or purple respectively. The longer the minigame goes on the more rapid the balls will come out and drop into the facility causing more chaos as the teams try and grab them. If it's a tied score zombies will win. There is a visible switch for the magnet from off to on that changes based on score. Walls will rise and fall in the arena.

If the plants win the power will surge with green electricity and the magnet will overload and explode saving the Earth.

If the zombies win the magnet will be powered with purple electricity. The magnet will then connect to the Earth and pull it into the shade of darkness as the moon blocks the sun, which creates a permanent solar eclipse on Earth.

This finale is the closest we get to perfection. The rapidly dropping balls keep teams seperated and constantly moving trying to grab them all and the arena favors many playstyles. It truly comes down to which team is worthy of victory, no oustide factors, no spawnables, no dominating sightlines, and no heavily campable positions.

My second favorite turf map in Gw2. I do wish there were more low gravity zones but it's fine as is. The sci fi references placed throughout the map are fun to find. The moon worm is also a great easter egg that should've been easier to activate (you can also find him in tunnels in the mines). I really like how the zercranium crystals that power the magnet are seen throughout the map constantly being transported from the third point onward by the monorails on top of the dome, mined by the robot, and flowing through pipes alongside the magnetic spheres.

You can find a battleplan for the first point of this map in lunar landing and Seeds of time states that this battle took place in 3058 amd that plants were victorious.

  • Love this map. Love the Easter Egg at the first point, even if it's not easy to get it to appear (need volunteers to help make it appear), love the map going from low to normal gravity, the scenery, the zombie looking for love ad, and the finale is fantastic. The super high ground on the first point is a problem at times, although not as bad as Cactus Canyon's 1st point can be, and the left teleporter spot on the miner diner point feels a bit pointless based on how close it is to the entry point, but those are mostly minor gripes on a great map.

The only negative I would say on this map's finale is that the zombies get camped a lot on it. Theoretically, the plants could be camped too, but I just don't see that. This may be the most balanced finale in all 3 games as both sides fight over the space balls on what feels like a giant bumper pool table. It's fun, looks great, and is so satisfying to score more goals than the other team.

@Iron_Guard8The main flaw of the finale is that since it's mainly PvP based a dominating team can easily curbstomp their opponents as theyve been doing since the start.

I love how space looks in this map compared to the rather bland and dark void of space most shooters give the moon. I also enjoyed the interactive moon facts stations.

Originally this map was gonna be about the zombies using enslaved gnomes mining cheese for a stinky cheese ray and I'm glad they didn't go with that tbh.

@stukapooka Since the gnomes control time and space, that would have felt really weird to have them enslaved by Dr. Zomboss, glad they went this route with the map's theme.

Those stations are neat with their little fun facts, but I noticed some characters can't interact with them, but most can. I can't remember which ones couldn't.

@Iron_Guard8 It also helps to keep their existence a suprise for longer snd reinforces the whole all powerful beings that exist beyond comprehension. The eclipse also makes way more sense than a stinky cheese ray.
