Hello, @arthrfrts
I can't connect to them either. I hope EA shut them down just for some maintanence.
The webpage reads as maintenance I've not been able to find any official response on the topic.
The website & logging into the client is down.
I will e-mail EA Support on Monday and try live chat if it's available
Right now, if you try to browse spore.com, it will return the next message: "We're doing some scheduled maintenance. Spore.com will be back soon!"
So my guess was correct)
That's not what I get. I get the message "This site cannot be reached. Spore.com took too long to respond."
I emailed someone at Maxis yesterday, they're no longer on the team that maintains Spore servers, but that team has been notified. Seems like they're doing some work now.
For Spore, the website is actually running directly on the same server used for the game's online features, so if one goes down, everything goes down. Yesterday they switched www.spore.com to point to a temporary server that just shows a maintenance page, instead of the currently-offline game server.
Unsure if this was planned maintenance or a glitch. Apparently there was some maintenance related to Spore and Sims 3 servers, so this might've been part of it, but not completely sure. If I hear back anything further from Maxis I will post it here.
any word on if the servers have come back online yet? i tried to login to play tonight and nothing responds : (
Looks like it's partially back up, although it seems work is still ongoing, as I am getting slow load times and 504 Gateway Time-out errors
Hopefully it's fully back up soon
Until then, you will probably still see errors logging into the game, and accessing the website or API, so just give it some more time
Seems like they are moving servers to a new datacentre (it's now being hosted in AWS) which is a much more involved operation than standard maintenance.
Good news is that from earlier today, we can see it was at least running briefly, so I'd guess the bulk of the migration is done, at this point it's probably more a matter of fixing any issues and getting it fully up to expected performance (again, just guessing, I don't know the specifics).
Could still be a bit longer though - even though it's not a change visible to players, this kind of operation has a lot going on behind the scenes.
