Workaround for TrackIR / Head tracking

Hey!

Just a heads up that a workaround has been found to make head tracking work in Squadrons - it's a bit of a hassle, but it works!

Wanted to post that in the other TrackIR thread but it was locked. Hope it's useful for anyone while we wait / hope for official support!

  • This is awesome if you don't need mouse/keyboard in put even in the UI, and if you're running it via Steam.

Not so great if you need the mouse/keyboard and you're running it via Origin directly.

@DaBosun Confirmed working on Origin Squadrons. It still use SteamVR and I had to use the game windowed otherwise the menus weren't rendering. If you use the Smoothtrack app for android you cand ditch the leds since it tracks your head via camera.
  • This is a much less elegant workaround, but is simple and will allow keyboard functionality. The app TrackMapper allows you to bind keyboard keys to zones in TrackIR. You can bind quickview keys to varous zones. It's not true free look, but works pretty well:

    1) Download and install TrackMapper 1.1a

    http://kaf.tri6.net/trackmapper/

    2) I set my zone mode to square; the forward, backward, and fullback to max so that outside of the deadzone your trackIR will activate the quickview keys

    3) Click on a zone in the map, then under 'Key map' assign 'Key 1' to the corresponding quickview. For diagonal views you assign 2 keys (ie up and right zone you assign Key 1 to up and key 2 to right quickviews)

Has anyone tried that with an actual TrackIR set? (The one from NaturalPoint). I can't get it to work, and all workarounds are from improvised sets.
