Re: Persistent GPU induced freezing (PC)

The recent update ruined the game for many, i can't even play multiplayer because of "Error 1066" which is just being ignored with blanket fixes.

Back to the point however i am assuming it is solely this game, if so reinstall would be the first approach. My 1080ti has been running fine and averages around 48C in this game.

Make sure all your NVIDIA Settings are set to GPU not CPU. Update your drivers if you have not already, not just GPU but everything else as well. Check task manager just for broad readings on what is maxing out when these errors happen.

You can do digging with through DxDiag and crash logs yourself, it takes awhile but just a lot of reading. Support might take awhile to respond. When i hear system lock up and audio bugs i think RAM/CPU over GPU but you seem convinced it is GPU.

Also if you have not already try running in windows 7 compatibility mode.

Side note: Consider what  programs are running in the background and make sure they are not conflicting with BF2.

You are getting errors with Windows.UI.Immersive.dll, which is a system file and running System File Checker could repair that:

Run System File Checker to ensure the integrity of your Windows System files: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

It is probably worthwhile checking for motherboard driver updates, your audio drivers are a little old.

Let us know if these steps have any effect for you, thanks.

  • Thanks for the help everyone, just an update:

I found out what the issue was, and I got a hint of it rather early on. I had an inkling that it was CPU vcore early on and I raised that 10mv in BIOS before booting and erroneously, determined that it wasn't the issue as I got another lock-up so I returned it to where it was Prime95 and OCCT stable -5mv (yes, this game sets the new standard in terms of CPU stability testing) Somewhere in the process I was also reducing my GPU overclocks, and a day had gone by and the next time I attempt to play I noticed that I got a crash even faster, this time within 5-10 minutes. Well, today I increased the voltage with Gigabyte's EasyTune app, from 1.35 to 1.39v and I just played for an entire hour without a crash. I'm left to conclude that the crashing wasn't GPU related, even though it appeared to be (usually, if it's CPU related it's a BSOD, not the game freezing with loud buzzing noise being emitted from the speakers / headphones).

If anyone else is having this issue check your CPU vcore.
