If you prefer not want to wait for a fix ( which is being actively worked on ) if you install the game via steam , it utilises a slightly different launcher unaffected by the current issue

I went to steam and downloaded it there. All the years i have been playing i never had to use steam to play so now i have to have steam open to play. This is how they loos paying customers you dont just say we chose you and Fk peoples stuff.

@proxos666 This is the best way to * people off first you * up and then you tell people paying customers mind you that oh there is another way if you cant wait WTF. I have been playing this game over the years and not saying my experience was perfect yall brake alot of things trying to fix one but this is the biggest * up you guys have ever made first you tell us we have been chosen non of agreed to test anything then of course it brakes and we all have to suffer because you idiots too cheap to pay testers so you send out this buggy * then have the audacity to tell people to use steam if you cant wait for patch {mod: removed expletives}. Never include me in any of your testing again unless yall paying me.

First up i am a player like you 

The launcher has been deployed to everyone , they just haven't removed the old test screen (no idea why not) , so everyone has the launcher now , there is no random choosing of people to test the launcher as testing finished a while back.

There is a small percentage that for some reason the launcher has that issue you have on clicking play (new launcher works fine for me for example) , I am aware it is being actively investigated 

but yes if you don't want to wait for a fix for those affected with the launcher, steam is an option to keep playing.

Why should I, or anyone, create an account with steam? to make it work?

I've been playing swtor since 2012 via the "normal" launcher.

Why, at least me, should I create a steam account? just another account added (for just SWTOR?).. no thank you.

I also think that everyone here has read the post what to do?

You asked me if I had sent the log, e.g. .....YES of course a few times already, what I said I think everyone will see the message....

Let them just roll out the old launcher, or add a second one.
Anyway, this is very frustrating. (And not everyone is a "Free to play" user.)

I am very sorry for this response....but again.. very frustrating.
