Re: Tv screen on Sims 2 Super Collection glitch

Hello. I really have a few questions before I reset it. If I have a lot of storage taken up on my mac, when I start the new ‘vanilla’ state game up, will it just glitch me out of Sims 2? Second question. Do you mean the desktop folder in finder or my desktop home screen on my mac? Third question. I have really bad anxiety about this game because it’s my favourite game of all time! Are you really sure that this will work? I’m sorry I had a few questions i’m just a bit worried. That’s all. 

I’m only 11 years old and sims 2 is my favourite game ever! I would be very very sad if this didn’t work. Do I move the Sims 2 folder from Aspyr folder in library or move the aspyr folder to desktop?

@teddyswirl1 , the folder you move is in your Aspyr Library folder and you move it to your actual Desktop. The Desktop folder simply shows you everything that is currently on your Desktop. 🙂

@teddyswirl1 , a vanilla state game should not glitch out as you would have no saved games or CC present. It is literally as if you have never played the game before. This is a good way to "reset" your game back to being like a blank slate. I'm not sure how much free space you have on your hard drive, but I don't think the game takes up that much space (saved games included). To answer your second question, it should be your Desktop home screen. The Desktop Folder is simply a folder of what you have present on your Desktop.

I play on a Mac and yes, I have done this several times and it does work. 🙂 Don't worry, I'm here and we'll get your game fixed. 

Hey. So I did what exactly you told me to to do, move the folder to the home screen but I did that and all my CC and saved games are still in the game. I also know why the tv glitches now. It only glitches if one of my sims plays SSX 3 console game on the tv. Because I tested it out. It didn’t let me into Pleasantview, I don’t now about Riverblossom Hills yet. But, I don’t understand why my saved games and CC are still in the game. I thought they would be gone? Also, I don’t understand why it won’t let me into Pleasantview. I also went into the Aspyr folder and it didn’t have a new Sims 2 folder it didn’t have a folder that was named Sims 2, I think I had moved the wrong folder. Was I supposed to move the Sims 2 folder from the Aspyr folder in the com.aspyr folder or the one from application support aspyr folder? Please try and tell me everything you can find to help me fix my game! ☹️

@teddyswirl1 , you need to move the Sims 2 folder from the com.Aspyr folder in your Library. The contents of the folder should contain folders named "Cameras", "Collections", "Config", "Downloads", etc. This is the folder that you actually add CC to. In regards to the TV glitch, it probably is a piece of CC you added to the game. But first we need to test that by resetting the game. You should never try to remove these folders while the game is running. Make sure you quit the game and it is completely closed. 

If your game still ran, don't worry. It should regenerate the necessary folders to run. So when you move the Sims 2 folder from com.Aspyr, that should be the vanilla reset with no CC and no saved games available to play.

Do I move the Sims 2 folder to my desktop like I did with the wrong folder? Also, would the game still work if I have accidentally put the wrong folder on my desktop then put the right folder or would it just glitch me out? I’m really scared and I have really bad anxiety. Will it delete everything from the sims 2 folder? If it does, is that normal?

@teddyswirl1 , in answer to your first question, yes you move your Sims 2 folder to your Desktop just like you did before. 

Which folder did you move before and where was it located? I want to check something. Don't worry. We'll get it all sorted out.

@Tremayne4260  The wrong folder I moved was located when I went into Library then into Application Support then the Aspyr folder. I didn’t go to the com.aspyr folder when I moved the wrong folder. And if I move the Sims 2 folder out off the com.aspyr folder to my desktop, will it delete everything out of the sims 2 folder?

@teddyswirl1 , when you move the Sims 2 from the com.Aspyr folder, it should not delete the contents of the folder. When you move any folder to your Desktop, no contents should be deleted. The Aspyr folder you originally moved should regenerate when you start up the game again.

@teddyswirl1 , do you have Time Machine running? And it shouldn't delete any files within the folder.

@Tremayne4260  I have Time Machine on my mac and no I don’t have it running, and I went on it not yesterday but the day before. Why? (please answer me because sometimes i want to reset sims 2 but i have more and more questions after you reply to me, if i sound rude i’m so sorry ☹️ )

@teddyswirl1 , you're not rude, you're fine. 🙂 You are one of the nicest people. Oh, I asked about Time Machine just in case something did happen to one of your files and if you had it running (or had it running a few days ago) you should be able to reset the one file you thought was messed up. 

I have had Time Machine save me more than once. Just asking for that reason. Now, on to your next questions. 🙂

@Tremayne4260  What if the Sims 2 file from the com.aspyr folder deletes everything from the folder. I’m not saying that this WILL happen, I am just saying that if it does happen will there be a plan B?

@teddyswirl1 , yes there is a plan B. This is why I asked about Time Machine. Time Machine has saved the file from previous days and if need be you can replace the folder from a previous day.  

How do I use Time Machine to get back the files from the Sims 2 folder if they do delete? Can you tell me what to do so I know and if they do delete, I’m not saying they will but if they do, will it be okay considering it’s going to create a new folder? Because, I haven’t backed up anything.. ☹️

@teddyswirl1 , using Time Machine is pretty easy. What TM does, it saves any changes you've made to files automatically (like say saved game files in any game you play on the computer) and will do so several times a day. So like in the morning, the afternoon and evening. If you have the Time Machine icon in your Dock, you just click on that and it will bring up a list of folders that are fairly similar and it will show on the right hand side of the screen a sort of timeline with names like Now, Today, Yesterday, November, October, and you can go back as far as Time Machine has saved files for. My old drive had two years worth of information on it before it died. So for example, I wanted to go into my Sims 3 saved games (I'm just using Sims 3 as an example) I can click on Time Machine, find my Sims 3 saved games from yesterday or last week, double click on the file I want to transfer to today's folder and Time Machine does the rest. It will automatically move and save the file exactly where it is on the day you pick. 

Granted we will be moving the Sims 2 folder to your Desktop to generate a new one. But Time Machine should still have your original Sims 2 where it was say for example yesterday, if you need it.

@Tremayne4260  But on my mac I don’t have that much storage and Time Machine doesn’t do backups so it doesn’t work for me. Also, this a question that I really want you to answer for me. Will it be okay if they do delete the files in the sims 2 folder considering sims 2 is going to create a new folder anyway?

@teddyswirl1 , if the Sims 2 does delete the files, it would mean you would lose your saves, lots, CC and mods. However, I have never had that happen. There is another way to back it up and that would copying the file to a USB thumb drive if you have one. You would copy the file before moving it to your Desktop. 

I don’t exactly know how to copy the files and do all that stuff cause I’m only 11. Sorry for not replying for a while, I had a busy week.

When I reset sims 2 will sims 2 work if I have 3GB on my hard disk? How much does that sims 2 folder out of the com.aspyr folder hold?

@teddyswirl1 , my Sims 2 folder is about 4GB, but that's because of my saved games (which account for 1.5 GB) and my CC/Mods (which is about 1.9GB). Now your folder should not be that big as you only played in one Neighborhood (mine accounts for all the Neighborhoods). You can check the size of the folder by right clicking on the Sims 2 folder and selecting "Get Info". You can see the size of the file in the top right. 

Let me know how big your folder is and we'll go from there.
