[FIXED] Rejoining a Branched Career

Let's say I join the Tech Guru career, and when choosing a branch, I choose Start Up Entrepreneur. I then progress to Level 10 of the career.

One fine day, I decide to switch careers. After some time I switch back to the Start Up Entrepreneur career (Tech Guru is no longer available on the job list due to my previous progress; that may or may not be a bug). However, the game throws me back to Level 1 of the Start Up Entrepreneur career, which is incorrect as it's supposed to start at Level 7 or 8.

To further prove that it's a bug, I progressed to the final level of the Start Up Entrepreneur career (Start Up Genius?) which was previously Level 10 in the Tech Guru path, but is now Level 4. There is no longer any promotion criteria I have to fulfil, save for the Performance bar.

I'm not sure if the bug can be self-corrected by maxing out the Performance bar and eventually hitting Level 10. I'll update this thread after I give it a shot.

thanks for letting us know.

I did some testing on this and it seems there were some major changes to this.

If you already branched, you don't re-join the actual career but the branch and you can no longer fall below the branch level which solves the issue that was there before,

I'm marking this as fixed

I got the issue with several careers I tried. When choosing specialization and abandoning the career its level is set to 1. For example, space ranger spec consists of 3 levels. So when I get the Space Ranger job it is level 3, not 10, and I don't get any benefits from it.
Public Enemy is unachievable for me now, because criminal career after choosing spec consists of 5 levels, and I need 8.
Can I fix it somehow?

the career path system has critical bug when changing job between high level career paths.
ex)
space ranger(8) -> [job change] -> select author career -> [level up] -> jurnalist👿 -> [job change] -> select space ranger path -> ...
but...
-> space ranger⚽

so this sim can't make space energy drink, and promotion too.
finally I used promotion cheat, but it change space ranger🏈, not space ranger(9).
therefore I can't unlock level 8, 9, 10 reward items with this sim.
other career paths have same problem.

Just as an additional note, I figured since I didn't know how Renaissance Sim was buggy (see other thread on this topic), I got to 10 in painter before switching to another career. Now that I'm on the last step of the aspiration, I figured I'd go back to see if I could get to 6 or 10 or whatever (even knowing about this bug)... using the cheat codes.
They don't work either.
They do work up to level -4- then stop.
so testingcheats enabled, careers.promote painter a few times and I'm up to level 4. (I'd gone to 2 the hard way then realized oh I'd get stuck at 4 and tried this workaround). It maxes at 4, but the desc's are all for the level 10 step. I think when I rejoined even though it said 1, I was at 6, and going to 4 has stepped me to 10 but the counter thinks I'm at 4.
So there isn't any workaround for this until the bug is fixed.

I have a similar issue (or perhaps this is a different on...?), in the culinary career. My mixologist reached 10 then wanted to quit to do the other branch. When he went to find a job in the culinary career track only mixologist was available & he started again at level 9. I made my sim join a totally different career for a few days & then tried again with no luck, mixologist being the only path available.

The original poster and this thread is calling out the bug that if you get beyond the decision point in a career track where you have to pick one of the two branches it forever remembers this, and when you rejoin the career it puts you at level 1 of that branch rather than level 6 of original career. Like instead of level 6 cooking you are level 1 mixologist or level 1 chef specialization. And if you try to advance to 10 in that branch you can't -- you get stuck at 4.
What you're saying here is that you are restricted to only choosing one branch of the two available -- that might not be a bug. That might be a feature. I'd LIKE it if I could do all careers on one sim, and all aspirations, but the way it seems to be set up is that you cannot.
I think they are two distinct items, and it'd need to be verified if it is intended or not that a sim be able to do both career forks/paths or not. If we're supposed to be able to then it is bugged.

And inquiring minds want to know! :D I hope they release at least some info on this soon.
EDIT: Oh, bummer. I did a little searching around, and apparently one of the Gurus has officially stated that you cannot switch career branches. It should restart you at a high level (i.e. after the branch) when you restart the career.
