[FIXED] Duplicates of households/Sims cause trouble

Not sure why, but my whole post repeatedly vanished, which I posted here (Update: I figured it was connected to the linked screenshots??). Luckily I saved it in a text editor...

Currently my household disappeared after I decided to "clean up" my households and deleted a joined household (not sure if listed amoung played or unplayed households) which contained:

  1. a (different!) copy of sim A who I also played as my main household (saved separately) and
  2. a copy of sim B who was also saved as a separate unplayed

When after that  I tried to go back to my main household (copy of sim A) it was empty and not loading. Also the second household (copy of sim B) was empty. Both households were still listed in played or unplayed households, respectively, but without sims. The "resetsim" command also didn't find my sim A anymore.

So it seems that the joined household and the separate households were connected/ that the game cannot differentiate between different copies of a sim.

I realized that this is probably strongly related to the issues that after the december update it's not possible to merge a household on itself anymore and that after the same december update the profile picture isn't updated when saving households. (Update: These issues seem to be solved after the January update, but the above described problem remains.)

In each case the game seems to memorize+recognize only the first saved copy of the sim.

Update: also found this thread.

Update 2:

I figured how to replicate my issue (tested without mods/cc):

1) Create a new household (H) and save it to "my library".

2) Move in a copy of this household (H1) from "my library"  to lot A.

3) Move in a second copy of this household (H2) from "my library"  to lot B.

4) Move out H1.

5) Go to household management and delete H1 from "unplayed households".

6) Enter lot B to play H2. The game loads but when loaded the sims are missing.

7) Leave lot B (without saving) and go back to the neighborhood. Go to household management. H2 is now showing without sims.

8) Close household management and move mouse to lot B. H2 is not popping up in the right corner.

9) Try enter lot B. It is not working: The screen zooms in to lot B on the map but doesn't load the household.

There is also no way to go back to the normal neighborhood screen except by reloading the game.

I meant back when the base version was released. I've just tested this again with the current version and it appears to have been fixed.

  • Yeah, seems to be an issue that comes in all kinds of variations.

    Thanks for the detailed report.

    The described issue still remains.

I noticed today that it really appears only with copies from "my library" (like said in my description). Copies placed directly from the gallery don't seem to have this issue.

@crinrict I've encountered this with the base game and what I discovered was that the sim object IDs were written into the tray objects therefore after re-inserting the character data [adding them to another household] the original instance would be updated. This is the reason that your first household is empty after deleting the second and there really isn't a reason for them to fix this. Simply edit the characters/family within a new file so the engine will generate new IDs for each object.

Do you mean you experienced this a while a go or just recently ?

According to the patch notes there was a fix to the issue but I don't know if this particular one has been fixed with it.

So if you still see it, I'll reopen. If it was before the Dec 4th patch, a new test would be very helpful to me 🙂

    Great.

Thanks for testing. I'm marking it as fixed then.
