Re: [FIXED] Sims not visible to player teleport /abort interactions

@goofylittlerhino I tested this with cooking food. Was zoomed on the upper floor and had my Sim make a salad .. which she did.

Are you switching Sims when you do that ? Do the interactions just drop from queue for you or are they still in the queue but nothing happens ?

  • To others who have described the same issue: You're describing exactly and precisely what I'm seeing.

To crinrict: I have seen your name many times when I search for answers here, and it is an honor to interact with you!

To begin with, I tried your test -- had a sim make garden salad downstairs while I remained upstairs. There was an unusually long gap of time before the money was subtracted for the cooking. My sims are in Riverside Roost; it should not have taken the sim that long to just descend the stairs and go into a kitchen almost directly opposite.

There were other delays during the cooking, but I can't tell whether they were part of the issue that I and others are describing.

At your discretion, you might want to test it with simply having them go up a staircase. Position a sim at some distance from the stairs, then switch your view to upstairs and ask the sim to come to a spot on the upper floor. See if s/he takes unusually long to get there and, in fact, ends up teleporting there, to wit. (I see some reports here of unusual "teleporting"; this may be the same Issue, but I'm unsure.)

Added note: This may not affect their own autonomous actions. My one little guy went downstairs to read at one point (bookworm) and when I went down about 15 minutes later, their time, he was placidly sitting at the table, reading the book.

The "glitch" never seems to affect a sim if you can see them; at one point, I told one sim to come upstairs and watched down the stairwell FROM the second floor. He ascended with no problem.

Answering your questions, the interactions don't drop from the queue, and to my knowledge, I don't switch sims. I say that not because I paid strict attention but because I find it hard to believe I immediately switch sims so often like that, LOL. But if you want me to test anything or try anything, I certainly can.

    P.S. You replied fast!

@goofylittlerhino Nope, can't duplicate it on my save but it can depend on many factors.

I did see them teleporting more than usual
  • I'm confused by this response. Isn't that the issue in question? In other words, you asked a sim to go to a spot and they teleported there?

I often have trouble following people online and I may be misunderstanding.

Also, thank you for your replies and your help.

@goofylittlerhino I haven't seen any teleporting on stairs. I saw it once when I asked my Sim to go to a place.

The way I understood your issue it's about that it takes forever for them to go from A to B and interactions are often not done by the Sims at all.

If it's about teleporting, there's an older thread on this here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Jumpy-Animations-Sims-teleport/td-p/6876628/jump-to/first-unread-message .. it's been an issue since forever: they often teleport back and forth. That's what I'm seeing.
  • Is it okay -- and is it even possible? -- to show you what's going on?

Using the record function in the game, I made a video.avi. It is 1 minute 28 seconds.

It's in a new game. (I've been testing all sorts of things, and this is happening everywhere.)

(Description: Two sims are living in Cypress Terrace, and I ask the red-haired guy to go upstairs and then I go upstairs and wait for him. After a long delay, he appears where I asked him to go. I go back down a floor and ask him to come down. After a long delay, he appears where I asked him to go. I pivot so I can see down the stairwell and ask him to come upstairs. He comes up normally.)

Simply offering this in case it's helpful.

  • I wouldn‘t call it teleporting, it‘s more a mix between teleporting and glitching.

For example I had my sim make eggs and toast in the downstairs kitchen. I didn‘t switch sims, but I was waiting for him to come down (I cleaned up some books or pet toys in the mean time, I think), when I noticed that the door of the fridge opened on its own while my sim, who was standing on the u-bend of the staircase, did the animations and ended up with the tray in his hand. He then dropped down through the staircase and walked into the kitchen to make breakfast. Similarly I noticed that one of the kids in my household was late for school, when I clicked on her, the camera brought me to what seemed to be an empty spot. I activated camera-follow out of curiosity and my camera followed an invisible sim to the edge of the lot, where she then greyed out and was shown as „at school“.

I usually don‘t have any sims teleporting around in my game (unless it‘s spellcasters, spellcasters may transportalate to their hearts‘ content). The safe this happened in is completely new and has never seen a mod. The house is one I have played in before but that I freshly downloaded from the gallery. It uses bb.moveobjects and while it‘s cluttered, it‘s not a huge house and I have never had any issues in it before.

@Anska_Stormblade that does sound more like the old issue (thread I linked) gotten worse.

At this point it's difficult for me to say as I haven't seen any teleporting on stairs myself. It def shifted in what some people are seeing but it could also just be a mixture of multiple issues

    Product: The Sims 4
    Platform:PlayStation 5
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? EP08: 1.assets.live-ep08.130
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All expansion packs except cottage living; spa day, vampires, strangerville, realm of magic, journey to batuu, dream home decorator; perfect patio, cool kitchen, kids room, vintage glamour, fitness, toddler, laundry day, my first pet, moschino, tiny living, nifty knitting, paranormal
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Watch the stairs when the sim goes between the second floor and first floor. You have to be on the first floor where you can’t see your sim
What happens when the bug occurs? Whenever I am on the first floor of my house and my sim is on the 2nd, they won’t go down the stairs. I have to go up to the second floor for them to go down the stairs. After about a half hour sim time, they will come down but they just appear; not go down the stairs.
What do you expect to see? Fix it please.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? On console - never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. When I installed the latest update.

    Please fix this.

Boy, I hope the above works.

Sorry for long delays in the video itself -- although the second delay, in particular (after the camera is repositioned), shows the long period of time before Caleb (not the vampire) appears. (The sim world knows the other guy, in orange, as Johnny Zest, but he's immaterial to this.)

When Caleb appears from nowhere, I have asked him, some time prior, to walk to that spot from another floor, either above or below.

(I wonder if I should add -- they're not vampires, they're not spellcasters, this is me simply asking them to walk from floor to floor, but these little guys have other ideas!)

cchilan07, who just posted here, has -- again -- captured perfectly what's going on, as seen via my link. And I'll be honest, crinrict -- it's confusing and disheartening to me that you cannot reproduce it in your game! I can only hope for a fix.

I've been agonizing (no joke) over how to describe it, because I want to be as clear as possible. I've barely been playing today, just experimenting across several saves and with several characters, and (as noted in this thread, at various points) have picked up a little about what's going on, but what do I know.

@goofylittlerhino You need to make the video public :D

Visuals are always best :D Seems everyone that has it understand completely what you mean

As for me not being able to repro: There are many factors and maybe it's not always happening and I've just been lucky

  • Glad the video worked. You saw how Caleb is jumping around unless I can watch his movements.  (LOL, there's a joke in there somewhere.)

I have no generated lastexception files in my directory; good question.  I just checked.

(For clarification, I'm presuming they're under Electronic Arts/The Sims 4, in the main list there.)

I think this is probably just an manifestation of the old teleport/jumpy animation issue gotten worse.

I will leave this separate for now until I get more intel.

For now please use the following threads

    - General Jumpy animations and teleporting: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/TO-ADD-Jumpy-Animation-Bug-After-Newest-Patch/td-p/6876628
    - Teleporting up and down the stairs: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Sims-won-t-complete-action-if-not-visible-to-player-Teleport-up/td-p/10527641
    - Vampires appearing backwards/disappear all the time: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-V-Vampires-are-constantly-disappearing-and/td-p/9761719

  • This is happening to me after the update and it's really annoying. I've never seen this bug before! I have all packs etc, on PC as well. Seems to be especially happening when directed to do something up or down stairs.

  • Im having this problem too. I didn't think anything could make me stop playing the sims, and then this bug came along.

  • I've installed the pack today and I'm still experiencing this bug, in fact I think it's gotten worse. Sims are getting stuck on a bent staircase and Mortimer teleported off that spot and got jammed  behind the staircase and then walked through a wall lol. It's pretty bad.

I just realized my toddler is half dead because I don't have my camera on her all the time to finish the actions and my other sims are teleporting all over the stupid place instead of looking after her.

This bug seems pretty game breaking at the moment ☹️

I 100% agree these issues since the last update, especially the stairs issue makes it too frustrating to play. I’m hoping they fix this really soon!

@crinrict I think I am having this issue as well. At least the just standing waiting to do their task until you are watching. I was playing the Pleasant girls and I would have one make dinner while one was suppose to be potty training a toddler. The dinner maker just stood there until I viewed her again. I have also had this happen when telling them to use the toilet or shower.

Yeahhhhhh, this explains why I CONSTANTLY ask my Sims to clean out spoiled food from the fridge.  I thought the fridge was bugged. No, they're dropping it out of their queue!

I asked one of them to clean out the fridge and then get leftovers, and instead he ate the spoiled food and got sick.  :P  (From now on only the Sim with the Fresh Chef reward trait is allowed to cook in that household!)

I'm playing in an 8 Sim household (okay, two of those are pets) and without antilag mods they won't do anything.  I usually spend all my time pressing the spacebar to check in on each of them and the space bar is unreliable as well, but I've found that taking items out of their personal inventory seems to help with that so it's probably unrelated.

It's really frustrating, guys.  Without the antilag mods they basically stand around for hours staring into space while I spacebar between them.  I finally turned off autonomy for the selected Sim and followed each Sim I actually wanted to do something around until it was done.  I guess I have to watch each individual Sim go to work or else they WON'T DO IT, they head towards the door and as soon as I stop looking at them they go Research Carrot Plant or something, GRRRRRRRRR!!!

I kind of have control-freak-y tendencies where my Sims are involved and feel like the only acceptable reason for a Sim to drop an action out of their queue is their death. I'm frequently amused by what they decide to do when I'm not actively directing them so I don't like to turn autonomy completely off, and also no autonomy doesn't even help this bug.  I tried it.  They still stand around stupidly staring into space and dropping actions from their queue unless I'm actively staring at them.
