I am having the issue if I travel, if I exit the game and reenter, if I stop to do another task. Every time I do something and go back to writing lyrics/writing songs (I've been trying to do both). I'm on PS5. All packs and kits. No mods or CC of course.
For me, I can write a book and complete as long as I do not: SAVE AND QUIT the game. Or Save, then quit. If I leave the lot, if my Sim sleeps, eats, etc - I continue upon my return from where I left off.
Likewise, if I'm writing a song, it's a similar issue. As long as I don't quit the game, my progress continues.
I'm on a PC (windows). Everything's up to date, all packs and stuffs and expansions, etc. No MODS or CCs.
To everyone suffering with this issue...the divine LittleMissSam has a mod that solves it. This is the link her Random Bug Fixes section. Search for "Resume Writing Workaround Fix" It 100% solved the issue for me. https://lms-mods.com/#rbf
Do yourself a favor a take some time looking at everything she has to offer. Makes the game so much more enjoyable.

If you're on PC, LittleMissSam has created a workaround for it. Check the pinned thread near the top of the Bug Reports forum titled Common Game Fixing Mods. You can find a link to the fix all the way at the bottom of the page.
