Re: Cannot launch Sims4, System cannot find file specified

@nim_chimpski @lfnagy @bbysharkie @Lucie995a @arteartemisss  and anyone else who comes across this, what antivirus do you use, and does it help to (temporarily) disable it?  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe, and this is the fastest way to test.  You may need to repair the game before launching it, and I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the EA App as well with the antivirus disabled.

For anyone who hasn't mentioned it already, please also note whether you're playing through the EA App, Steam, or Epic.

@puzzlezaddict Thank you for checking on us!! I unfortunately already went through the uninstalling process and lost all my progress, which sucks butt. But I use Avast for my antivirus, but I've never had any issues with it in the past...

Thank you for your reply, I also use Avast as my antivirus and last night i decided to uninstall avast completely, that seemed to do the trick 👍🏼

I never had issues with my antivirus before tho and would like to have an antivirus on my PC so i dont know what to do about this in the future.

Not sure if i mentioned earlier but i use the EA app.

Ill see later tonight if removing the antivirus was the permanent solution!

Thank you for reply. I use EA app and I have Avast antivirus. I will try to disable Avast and I hope that will work for us.

It worked! It was the Avast Anti-Virus. For some reason that I didn't noticed, it quarantined the folder. After I removed it from being quarantined, it worked perfectly. Thanks!

@puzzlezaddict it is Avast! I have it too and just experienced this. Avast put the folder into the "blocked" section Eventhough I've previously manually put it in the allowed section. Easy fix if you just remove it but not impressive work on avasts side 😂

Hi! I figured out what worked for me. Avast has a program called Quarantine where it isolates "potentially harmful" files. I found some of my s4 files under Quarantine. I selected them and restored them and my game booted like normal

  • Try reinstalling your Avast. If it happens again look under Avasts Quarantine program and see if Sims4 files are in there. Restore if they are and try running game again

  • It was Avast for me. I did not need to uninstall anything.

Just start Avast and go to the 'quarantine" section where you ll see your EA folder being held hostage. Just restore and make exception and Sims will run after

This seemed to work for me.

Avast quarantined the files, then let me make and exception. However it still held the files hostage until I went and restored them.
