Re: Sims 4 crashing and stuck on save

@ItsMeDanielllle  When you replaced the Sims 4 folder, did you add back any of your mods or custom content?  That might have made the difference, i.e. you had a broken file you weren't aware of.  The next suggestion I have is copying (not moving) one of your old save files to the new folder and testing that too.  Don't move anything else though, at least not yet—the idea is to test a copy of the save in isolation.  Let me know how it goes.

Please also run a dxdiag and attach it to a post, for reference.

  • I did it once with and once without but nothing changed. I tried it with the saves as well, I added them one by one from the oldest. I'm not exactly sure how to try this out though - I wasn't saving when trying the saves out as i was scared that saving would overwrite some of my other saves. Can I safely do this for each save to test them out (i.e. it won't overwrite everything and I'll be stuck playing a 2018 save)?

I have also noticed that pressing the windows key seems to cause the save lag? I used to do this when I wanted to go to a different window while playing but didn't want to save and exit the game, but maybe the new update clashes with this. Another thing that seems to have caused the lag was trying to add a staircase to a specific spot on a platform on one of my lots.

I stopped doing the two things listed above and the game seems to work again (for now?) so I'm not sure whether those could've been the problem and I just have to stop doing them, or the problem is something else.

I'm attaching the dxdiag, hopefully that will help. Thanks!

@ItsMeDanielllle  Your dxdiag lists a pile of crashes of a component of the Nvidia graphics driver, so I'd suggest doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver even if you're not currently seeing any issues.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

The virtual monitor software you're using could intefere with Sims 4 as well, although it might also be fine.  If you do see more issues and reinstalling the graphics driver doesn't help, I'd try shutting down this software before playing.  Go through the Task Manager's background processes list to make sure nothing related is still running.

The inability to tab out of Sims 4 is a known issue with the DirectX 11 version of the game.  Some people report that playing in windowed mode, either standard or "windowed fullscreen" (i.e. Borderless) helps, but others say it doesn't.  Regardless, the problem should be addressed sooner or later since this is a basic function.

For build issues, I really have no troubleshooting skills at all.  You'd be better off posting in Game Issues just for this, that is if you run into the problem again.  A couple of helpers there have a good idea of how to force Build mode to work, at least as well as it can.
