These guys can't even do decent Netcode. I can't begin to imagine the quality job they would do on a Ranked mode and an actual matchmaker.
I heard their Titanfall 2 ranked worked very well. And OW proved even a bad ranked system is way better than nothing.
True. Now, I've never played Titanfall, but I assume that is more traditional PvP, where accuracy, k/d/a ratio, and the other normal factors come into play for an MMR system.
Battle Royales are a different beast. First, there is the RNG of loot. Then, did you drop hot or cold? Did you make it to the top three without encountering another squad (which can happen often)? And factors like that.
In a Battle Royale, the normal accuracy, k/d/a ratio, and such are much, much more difficult to use for an MMR system. I know PUBG did it, but that BR also plays differently than Apex in several ways from what I can tell from videos. Plus, in a Battle Royale, surviving until the end is the name of the game. It's a major reason that survival time in Apex gives greater XP than kills do. So, I'd have to trust Respawn to be able to figure out a workable MMR system for Apex, and I just don't have that faith.
BRs by their very nature of how random the loot is, not to mention that survival is the goal, not necessarily running around for kills like in traditional PvP, is also why I think any type pf esports or ranks for them just do not fit. Hell, both of my current wins in Apex (I am very low level in this game still, since I was finishing up some stuff in Realm Royale), happened with only a single squad fight the entire match. The fight when we were the last two squads. I was awarded zero kills in both matches, yet was the Legends Champion.
Two wins, zero kills, very minimal damage dealt, one squad fight, won the match. So . . . what factors would they even use from that toward my MMR?
There have been teams that have won matches with zero kills or damage across their squad, simply by having a Lifeline and enough medpacks to hide in the final circle and wait for it to kill the other team. Zero kills and damage. Yet, won the match because they played for survival instead of kill-count. What MMR factors are used in that sort of match?
BRs are simply not your traditional PvP games like Titanfall, Overwatch, et cetera. The win condition is survival, and thanks to the slow damage of the circle in Apex Legends, there are different ways to go about that, including tactics that never see your squad fire a single shot and still win.
