Could you try to repair your game via Origin?
Setting all settings back to default may also work.
Please let me know if that fixed it, otherwise it may be a bug.

Could you have someone text you something in the game and screenshot it on your computer?
I don't know how to fix the issue, as this is the first time someone reports this, but if you can provide a screenshot the devs may be able to fix it eventually.
Not so sure what the point of a screenshot is, but I can tell you for sure my friend was typing to me in this chat, and could see my messages, but I couldn't see theirs. We were in a Discord voice call, where she told me she could see mine.
