Re: Apex crashing every few minutes on PC

Thanks for the updates!

Have you had the chance to try setting up a Clean Boot on your PC before launching Apex Legends to see if that helps at all? If there's anything else running on the PC that's related to the crashes that may help to get around it. For more information on how to set one up check out the EA Help website

Let me know how that goes once you've had the chance to give it a shot. Thank you!

/Kent

@EA_Kent Clean boot does not resolve the crashing issues. Again, it worked absolutely fine on the Olympus season patch only to break on the mini-update reintroducing World's Edge. The crash is not tied to one map or the other, crashes are constant on both maps.
  • Well, I seem to have found a way to stop crashing. I replaced my headphones: previously I was using optical audio (to an amp) on my ASUS Maximus XII Hero Realtek audio. Now I'm using a wireless USB dongle instead and I haven't crashed yet in an hour of playtesting. Previously I would crash every 5 minutes. My guess is that either there is an incompatibility with Realtek, SupremeFX, or Optical Audio connections leading to a crash with the Apex Legends sound optimizations introduced in the mini-update which also re-enabled World's Edge.

Edit: I just performed more testing using 5.1 speakers and I don't seem to crash at all using the Realtek audio. I'm going to go ahead and suggest that this crash is related to the new engine tweak's abilities to handle optical audio connections.

  • Now it's crashing all the time once again. Absolutely unimaginable. Went through all the troubleshooting steps, arrived at a place where it stopped crashing for 3 days, but now it's like square one all over again as it crashes every five minutes of gameplay. Any further help would be appreciated.

    Hey @nohm

Did you go back to using optical audio, or did it start crashing again with your other sound setup? Have you made any audio software changes recently?

This patch seems to crash at random no matter what you do. I recommend scaling back overclocks or making sure that whatever clocks you're running are rock solid. Also, reinstall Razer Synapse if you use it and make sure it isn't running while you play.

  • @nohm Most likely isn't overclocks. If it was, all of games will be crashing, or at least be having issues.

So I've felt like I had this issue before. This game has constantly been crashing for the last couple of days. I have to open task manager on another screen, close the game and relaunch. This sometimes happens multiple times in a game. Before when I had this issue I changed from 8 cores to 4 cores. I ended up trying that again and it didn't crash once for 10 games. Very disappointed that this keeps happening. To change to 4 cores.

1.Type ‘msconfig’ into the Windows Search Box and hit Enter.

2.Select the Boot tab and then Advanced options.

3.Check the box next to Number of processors and select number of cores. My cpu is a 9700k. I have 8 cores or processors. I set mine to 4. Restart computer. Open task manager. You should see this.

My friend also plays with me but he uses a cpu on a laptop that only uses 4 cores. He doesn't have the issue.

    My specs are.

    I7 9700k.

    RTX 2080

    32GB DDR 4.

    512 Samsung Evo 970

    Hopefully this helps somebody.

  • Hi, @EA_Kent,

I have the same crashing problems and I am getting the following message: (0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed.)

What should I do? I have tried just standard clocking, uninstalling and reinstalling, running as an administrator, and ran multiple troubleshooting things. It started crashing after the small patch update  that was maybe 2-5 days ago, shortly after season 7 was launched. It ran perfectly never crashed ever before this.

    Hi @WRLDxTinyTim11

When you've got a chance would you mind posting a DxDiag so we can take a look? You can find more details on how to pull one up over at the EA Help website. Once you have the text file please attach it to this thread.

    Thank you!

90% of everyone crashing with no error seems to have the 3090.

Apex Legends didn't crash at the start of this season at all for me. The crashes started occurring after the end of May hotfixes, specifically after the patch with performance optimizations. This fits with the pattern of previous seasons where great launches free of crashes gave way to crash issues after hotfixes.

  • i have not crash for almost 3 months. until now when i experience mico stutter so i decided to clean install my graphics card. and after that i always crash again every game.

maybe i fix it before with settings but i dont rember what settings did i do. well trying to find a solution agian..

My game has been stable for a good while. Whatever my issue was that caused the game to crash, they addressed it with a patch. Did you use Display Driver Uninstaller to cleanly uninstall your graphics driver and have you tried rolling back the driver?

  • Forget what I said. I am crashing again, too. They made a mini-patch with hotfixes on December 16th and that must have reintroduced the crash bug. I haven't been playing as much Apex because of work so I didn't notice that it's crashing again until today.
