Re: Movement Key Problem

You may have activated 'sticky keys' or some other Windows Accessibility option.

Control Panel, Ease of Access Center, Make the keyboard easier to use.

I have confirmed 'sticky keys' or other accessibility option has not been selected or otherwise activated.  My BIOS has been updated, as has all my motherboard drivers.  I am running a Z87 Deluxe Asus MB with a late model processessor.  What else can I check.  My keyboard and a second test keyboard work just fine in other software, without problems.  It seems specific to BF.  Can you help me please?

I have additional information regarding the movement key problem I am having:

-Both the 'w' and 's' keys have a problem.  They quit working (with or without boost in a vehicle) whenever the 'a' or 'd' keys (left or right key) are pressed.  Lifting the 'w' or 's' keys and pressing them again resumes movement until the left or right keys are pressed.

-Problem occurs even if I remap the movement keys to the up/down and right/left arrow keys!

-The problem occurs in BF3 and BF4.

-I have late model Z87 MB with Intel processor, drivers and bios updated to latest available from Asus

-The problem happens with any keyboard I use.

-My keyboards are all PS2 style with USB converter used to connect the kb to motherboard.

-I have not tried a direct USB keyboard yet, since it would require me to buy one.  I will try buying a cheap one and see if the problem repeats.

    Stay tuned.

I can confirm you suspicions are most likely accurate in Battlefield 4.  Hooked my gaming rig into a KVM that I have and also had to use the USB-PS/2 converter and have "exactally" the same issues "W" and "S" keys work for a short period of time (couple seconds) then you have to repress the key.  But on the flip side of the coin I also have a USB keyboard (Saitek Eclipse II) which works without a problem in Battlefield 4.

Get a USB keyboard and should fix your problem.

    Good Luck!

i have USB keyboard, and I am getting similar problem from time to time. It happens with W, A, S, D, CTRL (used for sprint), SHIFT (used for scope). Also it is similar but not the same. My problem is that in random moments one of these keys (W by feet and SHIFT in vehicles mostly) will stop working, and i have to retap it to activate again.

Sticky keys are disabled, this happens on other usb keyboards, this never happens in other games (CSS, Q3L).

    Please advise.

It's now 2016 and I've been playing BF4 for a while without this issue on a few different versions of Windows of a few different computers.  I just rebuilt my primary machine with a new mobo, CPU, RAM combo (Z170, i7 6700K, 32GB DDR4) and a clean install of Windows 10 with the hopes that it would open up my bottle necks (and it did).  Still rocking a PS2 keyboard that works fine everywhere else.

I reinstalled the game with a backup of the the install that was working fine under Win 7.  Then the stuck keys issue started along with a Punkbuster A error.  Punkbuster caught the issue on its own, brought up a repair menu prompt and following the steps it provided fixed that issue.  The keyboard issue persists even after doing a clean install of BF4.  I normally use the arrow keys for movement, but the issue started before I had even modified any key bindings, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Is anyone else having this issue again?

  • Well, its now 2019 and i have this issue in BF5 now. Started a vew days ago. Its actually very annoying an makes the game unplayable in most cases. I'm not a hard core gamer but even i find it frustrating sometimes.

The last reply to this post was from 2016, I will be locking this post down though to avoid further necroposting. I recommend posting in the BFV Technical Issues board with specific details and a DxDiag so we can troubleshoot it there for that game.

If you still need help with this specific topic please create a new post on our boards.

    • Don't "necropost." Reviving, updating or bumping old, outdated and irrelevant threads is not helpful for our community. It's best to check when the thread was created before you hit post, just to make sure it's not 2 years old for example.
