Re: [PC] BF5 crash to desktop on clean install

My solution which solved the in-game crashes for longer periods of time, although not completely:

  • installed the latest NVIDIA driver 417.35 which just came out yesterday - download link
  • installed the latest game patch which also came out yesterday (didn't solve the problem by itself)
  • installed MS WIndows 10 1809 patch (didn't solve the problem by itself)

What I tried without lasting success, although it might help others in eliminating their problems:

  • set CPU and GPU to normal (not overclocked) settings (tools vary depending on manufacturer / architecture)
  • update the mainboard BIOS to the latest version
  • update the OS to the latest version (in my case, this meant getting the 1809 update for Win10 although it is not rolled out normally at the moment)
  • check whether the system has temperature or RAM usage issues when gaming, i.e. with CPUID HWMonitor (it has a nifty Max / Min value view)
  • check for conflicts between drivers (i.e. in Windows Logs)
  • clean up your boot process (remove unnecessary tools and gadgets from being started automatically) as described here
  • try running Origin with admin permissions
  • try disabling "Origin in-game" for the game
  • try re-installing all VC components as described here
  • try deleting "C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\Battlefield V\twinkle\"
  • try using the MS .NET Framework repair tool
  • try disabling G-SYNC (if you are using both an NVIDIA card and a g-sync-ready display)
  • try choosing DX11 vs. DX12 in the in-game graphics settings
  • try running your CPU and/or GPU at lowered (underclocked) settings (tools vary depending on manufacturer / architecture)

And to help others diagnose your problem, be prepared to give them

  • the DxDiag output
  • the tasklist (i.e. do a "tasklist -v > C:\tasklist.txt" in a command prompt with admin permissions)
  • the game crash dumps from ""%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps"

I want to thank all the ppl who tried to help me to solve the problem, especially MADrag0n, for your patience and your valuable input.

... and, without any changes to the system (as far as I know - nothing I did) I'm back to having the game crash to desktop... although it seems to happen less when audio is off, which somehow is not really a solution 🙂

For me the unique solution was underclock the RAM speed, I've a 16gb RAM with 3200mhz but with that speed, the game crash to desktop. Then, I test it in 2400mhz and works fine....crazy!! Now I'm testing if the memory had some problem (but I don't think so because I can play BF1 without problems a few months ago and with 3200mhz....).

  • I play a dozen other games that are graphically demanding with no crashes.

I run a second monitor with a system health widget called AIDA64 constantly and many of the other games load up my CPU and GPU just as much as BF5 does. The temperatures I get up to on the other games are equal to what I get up to in BF5.

The max I spike up to is about 80 on my CPU, with it sitting at around 70 - 75 under full load. On my GPU, I will get up to 75 after being at full load for several hours. Here's a sample after running a stress test for a little while:

Yet BF5 crashes on me after about 5 - 10 minutes.

It's not because my system is overclocked. Please offer real solutions, not workarounds / scattershot checklists. I'm not reinstalling my OS to fix your game when no other games have issues.

I have an i7 7700k, RTX 2080, and 32GB RAM. Drivers, OS, and game are up to date.

    I have the same problem.

    What I did so far..

New OS installation, and all sorted setting changes and keeps happening.

    EA please fix this.

  • Any answers on this? Its happening to me every 5 mins. I cant believe I paid 70 euros for this game I cant even play!
