Re: Field Upgrades and Hardcore (PC)

Hi @kk1128 ,

As far as I know of, then its actually only the very first one on your list that doesnt work in standard hardcore mode:

1. Defensive perk, LVL 4 - Quick regen = Decreases the time before "out of combat" heal by 20% (to 8 seconds from 10).

And the reason for that is that on hardcore servers, we do not have any auto-regen of health of vehicles, so it doesnt start ever.  Hence, no function either from gaining that perk lvl, to reduce that suppression time from 10 down to 8 seconds.  As after that time, it will still not heal the vehicle health level.

But for the rest, then they still work indeed, also in hardcore mode:

2. Combat Medic LVL 4 - Medical Unit = Occupied vehicles will slowly heal nearby soldier

This is mainly to be compared to if you as Combat Medic actually have dropped a medic bag for your friendlies to heal from.  And that also works of course in hardcore mode.  So this perk is to compensate for that when you are inside a vehicle, you have no access to drop your medics, so here if you achieve the lvl4 perk, then you can still help your friendlies to regen their health.  Now it will of course never get them over the 60% health level, as that is the max health in hardcore.  But it will help them from whetever lower level they may be at, at the time they get in proximity to you in the vehicle.

3. Engineer Perk Mechanic LVL 4 - Repair Unit  = Occupied vehicles will slowly repair nearby vehicles

Here same function as above with the Combat Medic.  Except here it will work as if you would as engineer would get out of your vehicle and use your blowtorch to help repairing the vehicles of your friendlies.

4. Support Indirect Fire LVL 4 - Resupply Unit = Occupied vehicles will slowly resupply nearby soldiers

Here same function again as above, where you as Support will trigger that your friendlies nearby gets resupplied on ammo all while you are inside the vehicle, just as if you had exited and dropped them an ammo bag.  And this works fine also in hardcore mode.

The challenge is of course, it's not directly visible to your friendlies on their HUD when you play in hardcore mode, but they do work and are all great perks to realize also and actually especially when in hardcore mode!.  A favorite setup is to have e.g. the combat medic and support sitting in a tank together and then play together with a group of anti tank engineers as infantry.  And then team up to go hunting together for enemy vehicles.  As ammo and health will keep being upped up nonstop for the infantry engineers, and each one of them will have 6 AT mines and 7 RPGs at their disposal.

Main important thing is of course to avoid at all times that your squad is all getting eliminated at the same time.  So one from the squad needs to stay alive for you to keep the perks intact.  Otherwise you are set one perk level back and will have to build it back up again.  But knowing and understanding the mechanics of the perk counter then it should be quickly done.

Happy team hunting out there!

    Thx for the reply !
    appreciate it
So all other field upgrades work just as they do in normal mode right ?

  • Yes they do @kk1128 ,

Though a couple with a caveat, due to the special HUD reductions/traceability when playing in the hardcore mode.

And those are typically related to the spotting of you/enemies, as this is not possible in the normal point of view and Heads Up Display you have.  As most is essentially missing when in hardcore mode.

Aka, you have no minimap.  So that means eg the perk of "Quick Un-spot" is not having any effect on the player's minimap.  But as you may be aware, despite you play in hardcore mode, you can still flip open the scoreboard and the full map.  And on this full map, you also see spotted enemies!  So here, you will benefit from also such gained perks also in hardcore mode, though one can argue the value is less, as nobody has the minimap in hardcore.  But yes, many very experienced players are still flipping quick on/off the large map, to quickly orientate themselves on enemies and their activities.  E.g. enemies also flare up on this large map, if you utilize the recon T-UGS or the throwable sensor balls MTN-55.

So here it also works in hardcore for the Motion Sensors perk, for Spec Ops Tier3 perk, which increases your number of MTN-55 to be held to 5 sensor balls and it also increases the sensing range of the T-UGS and MAVs by a whopping 40%!!  Even and especially in hardcore, that is a massive advantage.  But as said, you need to flip to the large map to see your enemies light up as a xmas tree.  ;o)

So same again with the Advanced Spot perk, which is Sniper Tier4 reward, which increases the amount of time an enemy is spotted by 45%.  You have no minimap, so this is only visible when you flip to see the large map.

    Have fun with it!
