Re: Why is K/D so highly reagrded in BF? It's NOT the ONLY Team STAT...

@lzilchetlSorry but I don't count revives in this. Most of the time said soldier is revived just to be killed within seconds. Most smart players do not even take the revive. I never do, I learned my lesson ages ago. In matches where the ticket count is 1000+ revives are a nonfactor. So i disagree with most of what you said. If you're killing more players than the other team that means you're keeping objectives and that means a faster win. Tanks are disposable, the only vehicles that are truly valuable are the lil'bird or attack chopper. Tanks are coffins against a decent team.

I am sorry @Threedog1421 ,

But that is absolutely not true!

I have run many 3200 ticket servers for years and still have a few these days.  And very often we observe how the best collaborating team players are winning the round.  Again and again!  While all the k/d stat packing egos are loosing as a team if too many of them.  And offering the defib revive to your mates and taking that revive is very often the very thing making the whole difference!

(everybody who plays hxrdcore mode knows especially how true that is!)

So just to prove the case of how kills are meaning less versus PTFO and helping your mates is, I just opened the log on one of my high ticket servers here from yesterday:

Battle Report - Battlelog / Battlefield 4

3200 tickets infantry server, normal mode:

The US team winning big on tickets!

Despite they also got hammered in being killed by the RU side.  You can see the RU team registered 2153 kills!

But the US team were very active and helping each other to revive, so they only recorded actually 1447 deaths on their side!

While US team only registered 1879 kills, so much less killing of RU enemies.  But the RU team ignored more their mates to let them remain dead, so 1524 of them were recorded dead for good.

You see how many on the RU team are aggressive high k/d players on the top.  While you hardly have any heavy k/d hitters on the US team.  But you see in the XP scores how much more they focus on PTFO and helping their mates, in the higher XP they score still.  US defib, and they take the friendly revives.  US drop ammo to their friends.  US play together to take the flags, so US win the game!  Big time even!

Despite 300 fewer kills!  And despite a much lower accuracy.

It's all about playing together as a team to win it!

@CyberDyme Thanks, but it is not me you need to be saying sorry to. @threedog1421 was the guy saying KDR is important - I was disagreeing with him. I'm backing off though coz its in danger of turning into a spat, but really grateful for some support with stats. Nice one.

@CyberDyme You know, there is a little world there that needs exploring isn't there? I think the gameplay over the BF1-BFV period has channelled the action to favour those who excel at KDR as a KPI and we have a generation that don't appreciate the subtleties of the play. Winning games needs to be elevated or rewarded a bit more I think. Nice one!

@CyberDyme Thank you for the example!
Killing people is not the same as Capping objectives.
It just is supposed to make capping an objective easier 😉

All good and sorry @lzilchetl ,

My misunderstanding on who brought the question up when first reading it.

And all agreed as well about the generational changes on weight on what wins a match in the BF world, as game balance and importance of play styles have changed a lot over the years from like BF3, to BF4, to BF1 and now with BFV.   We can all have great opinions and preferences for various play styles.  And its rarely just black and white, as so many parameters are at play in the BF world.  Which exactly is why its such a great environment to play in, as there is a bit of something great for everybody to be delighted by.   And everybody can contribute to the gameplay no matter what the personal style may be.   ;o)

@CyberDyme No problem, but, really cool to have someone come up with some evidence - never seen game stats like that before. I've no evidence that I am correct, its just my observation after 15 years of the game, so great to know I was on the right lines. Thank you.

I’m thinking: Which “ready to be added” suggestions could we come up with that DICE could think about, to give more prestige to doing team play and supportive actions?

When a round is finished in Battlefield 1, you see a screen with the best squad, then a screen with 5 names of players that stood out in the match.

As a player you can get mentioned for these things (probably others, but this is what I can remember):

    - Most heals

    - Most revives

    - Most resupplies

    - Best squad score

    - Enemy vehicles destroyed (this involves killing often of course, but it’s different than just K/D)

    - Best score for your class (Assault, Medic, Support, Scout, Tanker, Pilot)

That seemed to me to be a good way of pointing out that killing is not the only thing the game recognizes as being important.

I hope DICE is adding this to BF2042 - it was absent in BFV, if I remember correctly.

@VOLBANKER_PC Yep, you are correct that it was absent from BFV. That was a shame IMHO as I used to really like seeing all the names, showing who did what best, pop up. I think it'd be nice to get that back in some form for BF2042.

@CyberDyme Nail hit firmly on head, with evidence!

@VOLBANKER_PC, BF1 had it about right in the end of round highlights but it occasionally irked me to see best KD when it was well known that it was achieved through 'non objective' means.
  • @CyberDyme This basically sums up everything. PTO will always win the day. And if you have the k/d as well as the PTO on top of other stats, well then, grats on that glorious point total and team MVP. Those that care about only k/d in BF games come from CS and CoD I've come to gather. You my good sir, sum up this whole article on why PTFO wins the day.
