Re: Crossbow a gimmick?

think it was a good addition because it feels super different compared to the other weapons. I've been having lots of fun with it - one of the hardest weapons to use but can be deadly if used properly (https://youtu.be/DZxLlAz5_WE)

    @Metal_Daryl97 Sure, but I'd rather have had it later rather than sooner. To me, it's just a niche weapon that won't see much use outside of initial acquisition. Although, I will admit, the explosive bolts are brutal lol
  • It's fairly functional once you get use to it. Had the best luck with the bolt rack at mid-long range as a faster GVT headshot machine. If you don't miss and it's not a crowd then standard for close. Explosive for catching folks dancing in/out of cover. G57 for close crowds and some luck to survive.

    Pretty much dead vs anything with HoF unless you catch them off guard or they're secretly Stormtroopers.

    Was the Phantom Bow a gimmick? Or indeed getting roadkills with the SUAV? Gas mask kills, Limpeting buildings full of enemies, dropping a vaj (bf5 call in bomb, sorry, we call it that), laying mines on the enemies runway.........

    I respectfully disagree. These make the game fun.

    Alternate uses and, in the case of the last one, good stategy, doesn't make an item gimmicky. Makes the user creative.

    Just because it's a gimmick doesn't imply it isn't fun to use.

    Crossbow Feedback for Dice:

    1.  Increase the hit box size, as there is absolutely no aim assist with controller and the hit box size is tiny which makes a slow arrow difficult to stick at medium to long range.

    2.  Increase the arrow velocity as it is very difficult to hit moving targets.  Real life crossbows have more velocity than the BF game...

    3.  Increase the damage reduction over distance, as two shots are not going to happen against a player that is not asleep while playing...

    4.  Decrease the arrow reload time as second shots attempts take way too long due to extreme reload times...

    5. Increase explosive tip damage to vehicles, as it is meaningless damage per arrow at this point.

    One trick to take down players with one shot at distance is to switch to explosive arrows, yet you have to stick as the blast radius is tiny.  Also it takes a very long time to switch between arrow types due to the long reload animation...which makes it a very risky tactic in the battlefield

    In summary Dice, there are logical reasons that players hardly see anyone use the "Ghostmaker R10 Crossbow"...check your stats, the "Ghostmaker" is anything but as it stands...

  • @Prep768 how much of that functionality is in the new bow? I have seen explosive rounds but that's about it.

    @Adamonic Currently sitting on mastery 12 and managed to get the feel of the bow now. The explosive bolt is a ohk, which is fun, however only has a 10 bolt mag. The bolt rack has a reload penalty which obviously becomes an issue in cqc. My go to is the standard bolt, cobra grip and the maul hybrid 3x.
    As a bf4 phan-ficionado I've always enjoyed not using the meta weapons. You obviously have to pick your battles with the bow, like any other weapon but the setup mentioned above does (imo) make it viable, and fun.
