Re: Toggling Javelin

Going to be honest... I was thinking this was going to be a great update but I'm not liking it.

Breakthrough still has the matchmaking error that happens every match or two.

Only support class can drop ammo or med crates they are extremely hard to find

Javelin is crippled

SOFLAM is useless especially with tracer dart

EOD Bot... why?

Support bonus is increased accuracy when crouch or prone for smg? Why not increased hip fire accuracy or something useful.

Javelin doesn't cause lock on sound on Helo (at least it didn't for me when I was in it)

  • Only able to lock on & direct fire unless someone paints the target... which defeats the purpose of the javelin.

Top down is only painted targets (soflam or tracer)

Unable to lock on ground targets.

so javelin can't lock onto anything without soflam?  does it at least hit hard?

  • it can lock on but fires straight at the target not the usual top down shooting.

ok so it works like it did in other battlefield games.  how hard does it hit in direct fire and in top down?

@Psubond it locks on, but it fires in DIR mode unless a SOFLAM or Dart is used, THEN it hits you in TOP DOWN mode.

but Delta and I want the ability to user toggle that mode at our discretion, as each mode has its benefits.

@Psubond if the model is correct - top down should do more damage to armor than Direct. as the top armor is thinner, especially on tanks.

That is the way it worked in BF3

@UP_Hawxxeye now we have TopDown, but it only does this with SOFLAM or Dart. i think the user should be able to toggle it based on situation at hand, like the Javelin actually does.

@AOD_CapStar362 yea, that's how it *should* work, but does it?

how many javelin does it take to kill a tank, how many to kill a transport aircraft (and do flares work on it?)

@Psubondflares stop lock, yes. Jav ( if using IRL ) is a Infrared Fire and Forget system. controller programs the warhead and guidance for Direct seek or top down sense and then tells the seeker in the warhead "hey look here"

once that missile is loose, it can be stopped. now, if it was doing actual SACLOS guidance, you cant stop SACLOS unless you stop the spotting by LASER or you put a object between you and the missile.

but this is BF, so, using IRL references is pointless.

I havent had enough time to see how many it takes and the differences between spotted and self direct fire.

Assuming that the 'top down' does more damage (haven't been on yet!) then I disagree that fire modes should be toggleable (sp?).

The 'top down advantage' should only come through teamwork with SOFLAM/Dart as it was in previous games.

@Trokey66well, i finally got a SOFLAM'ed target on a M1A5 - it DOES NOT do more damage, because my next shot was non-SOFLAM and it did the exact amount of damage to a direct shot to the engine bay.

So, by that, its not properly programmed for armor nor the mode and thus, should be made your "Weapon Firemode" button should toggle it based upon the situation you are presented with. if a target goes under a building or some kind of obstruction, top down would be zero effect. so the operator would logically switch to direct mode. and enable a direct to target shot under the obstruction.

@DeltaDude208 Sounds like an attempt to balance another lock on that vehicles have to deal with.

I hope it's intentional and not a bug.
