Re: Helicopter vs. Infantry or Light Armored Vehicle

@Gurz1019_MP  the balance overall is not perfect, but in a good spot or not bad, perhaps some things need a little adjustment here and there. but thats about it.

the hate on helos is real, but not justified.

there are rounds where other vehicles like the tank, ram or the cav farm almost a 100 kills do 10 caps and thus decide the round and the heli does 50 in the same round and the chat is full of heli hate.

I think in most scenarios, its the lack of skill or the ability to take on a heli or fly aircraft and the willingness to do so, the willingness to counter it. the lack of game knowledge itself. how taking down aircraft is pretty doable. when someone lacks these things

it makes feeling powerless. but that is not the fault of good aircraft players.

a good aircraft player in this game, is constantly facing heat. there are 64 players on the enemy team. at least 20 try to hunt the good aircraft player. he is constantly visible.

the good aircraft players are either natural talents or practiced a lot to get where they are.

good aircraft players are among the players in this game that have gone through suffering the most and are willing to suffer to improve

more AA options would make it too easy.in terms of concentration. when an aircraft has a 0 death round. it means 2 things that the enemy AA players were not up to it including enemy aircraft. but it also can mean in difficult lobbies that the pilot was playing very well . focussed and concentrating for 15 min 20 min straight without any break on the mind.it would be unfair if someone hiding in some corner, safely from the heat, as infantry or with light vehicles could take it down by just pressing a button. operating aircraft very effectively in this game especially in difficult lobbies on the weekend, requires a lot of skill.seems only logical to me that taking it down should also require a lot of skill. there is no right reason to make it easy for the sake of entertainment. though its not that hard  to take down aircraft with the given tools. it is in a lot of cases lack of skill

the tools are all there. the willingness to really master the tool of choice is not there.the will to hate is there, the will to improve is not. thats just not how ideal competition works

@Lady_One Ofc it is. I hope you are not serious. Game might not be really that competitive, but sure do require skill and dedication to something.

@Man_iLoveFishing"Professional" video game reviewers and sites are a joke, and even if we ignore that, they do not review PVP games at anything other than a very surface level, especially not 2042 (a "68" at launch, huh?), and they almost never do re-reviews. DICE does not communicate on Reddit, this was only a thing around launch. They pretty much don't even communicate on these forums, they only communicate on Xitter, and even then from the looks of it only with big youtubers. The game does not receive frequent balance patches, especially now, that was mostly only a thing around launch month, and the frequency of balance patches has nothing to do with whether something is balanced or not.

Team coordination is extremely debatable, people are still asking for resupply caches on the map or for the ability to grab ammo off their support teammates. Do you think it is incorrect to add these features? Coordination is not really required for taking out ground vehicles. Nevermind that there's also some pretty direct ways in which coordination is lacking, like how there is no in-vehicle VOIP or pings for when you have passengers that aren't squadmates, or how there isn't any way to communicate with your teammates (not squadmates) other than sitting still and typing in "omg enemy team hackers".
A well designed (casual) game will make players' egoistic decisions benefit their team nonetheless.

ChatGPT does not know what the current AA options are. High skill does not justify the extent to which aircrafts are OP. But you do not need that. You just need to not crash piloting an attack helicopter, and have at least one of your 3 squadmates not asleep so they spawn in on the flying killstreak. Powerful weapons don't matter if the vehicle is weak, that's what makes a glass cannon a glass cannon, and aircrafts being fast is literally their inherent design, unless we're talking about an AC130 which is not present in 2042. They could be slowed down, but unless they're all made into flying tractors (which kills the point of aircrafts) that's not going to change much because the main issue is the main AA infantry weapon - the stinger - is garbage and all the other options are broken in one way or another while some ALSO need a high skill floor.

You do not need some high amount of skill to explode a tank with rockets that dust half the time. You do not need to spawn into a special anti-tank jeep that doesn't take skill and fights only the one ground vehicle that does actually take some skill. You spawn in with an RPG and shoot a rocket at it and that's it. Taking more skill to pilot does not justify it, at a fundamental level if enough people go engineer and you in a vehicle attack them, you should either die or be massively suppressed to where you can't do anything.

@Lady_OneI pasted this cause someone said "I don't have to, internet already has proven point." Where do you think chatgpt analyzes and calculates answers from? 😅😂

Edit: To me it sounds, helos should not fly and should shoot tomatoes. In reality, you can't live with it more than 1 minute. Thats the truth there. 🤷‍♂️

But going real here. I do understand how helicopters performed at the beginning. All aircrafts are changed/nerfed many times, i've adapted i think like 4-5 times past 3 years. The thing is, i know what i'm doing. Past 6 months lobbied have advanced to heavier AA play, rookies wouldn't have any chances even to get out of mainbase. You guys are living in the past.

Edit: About skill, it really is not only about how you aim. Take incount having gamesense. Skill comes from practice and experience. Just a reminder, word is a little bit more wider.

And quick minor offtopic - how people react when they see nightbird, look at that hate. Even though post is not about helicopter, but about c5 and huge explosions not able to kill infantry and people accept it to be okay. Infantry has its own god mode and not much innocent here as well.

@Man_iLoveFishing The big takeaway here is that Dice needs to learn from 2042 to have any chance for the next game. That's the point people are trying to make that have given up on this Battlefield. We paid for it just like you did.

The CEO of EA is already saying some very worrying things about the next Battlefield. I don't think EA or Dice really get their own franchise anymore. So not much hope there.

Most of the woes of infantry vs aircraft boil down to the main infantry tools intended for aircraft being homing.

The problem with homing missiles is that they either will be almost unavoidable or they will never score a single kill.

This is why BF1 and BFV had relatively healthier balance, the AA were skillshot based.

The other aspect of infantry vs aircraft that is not often talked about is the comparative numbers of aircraft when compared to the numbers of infantry players who try to do something as opposed to the number of infantry players who cannot be bothered to do anything. Even the janky stingers would do a lot if the majority of the map was covered by at least one loaded stinger.

By the same logic, what do you think will happen to a nightbird if a full squad picked the Railgun rifles and started focus firing it? It had been nerfed to the point where a single person is not such a big deal but it is not the same for several people.

One could argue that the main problem in BF games since forever is how most people treat their ingame time as a solo theme park ride where they do not really have a common ground with their team.

Perhaps my thinking is weird, but I see the combined balance in BF games like how it works in Real Time Strategy games where you are supposed to have prepared the correct units and defenses instead of having a mass of a single unit type

    @UP_Hawxxeye

    exactly,

one can only repeat the same thing over and over again

the critisizing players are not able to take down a heli, bc they lack skill. skill means not only personal skill like aim, game sense etc.

it also means to be able and willing to do what needs to be done. even if sth is overpowered, it still can be stopped

instead they give in and react with frustration, refusal, denial and lies and the sort of things

    ask for nerfs

the right thing to do would be looking  in the mirror and saying. Im not good enough. our team is not good enough. with this team we wont be able to stop the heli. what can I do to improve. what can we do to improve

these people never blame their own team or themselves, but look for blaming dice and the balance. they always blame sth or someone else

    its never their own fault.

there is no point in arguing with people, who lack objectiveness and foremost a champion mentality in competitive situations. such people will always turn around arguments, manipulate facts. in their favor. spread lies.

the problem here is a socio- psychological matter. if u sit behind a computer ur whole life only, and avoid struggling with society, u will get a loser mentality, that just keeps crying for nerfs, or isnt able to accept truths. just as mentioned above, that I need to improve in the first place. my team needs to improve in the first place

be a loser or become a champion

Im saying this one more time. even if they nerf aircraft and give better options for AA

the best pilots will still farm you and break you. bc they are champions

the losers will be never able to understand that, that nerfs dont matter.

the best players, the best people will find ways, always, to dominate. they are ready to work hard for that and to practice to overcome any nerf, bc they know that after all the suffering, they will dominate independent of nerfs

the same goes for any type of players in this game. if its a guy who knows how to play stingers, to play the wildcat, TGM,  infy vs infy. the best players will always succeed and overcome any nerfs and all the bs that bad players create

@cyromilia No, I will actively engage in ground-to-air combat when I am willing to do so. In that regard, I am willing to execute. I am not making this an issue because it is not easy for me to do. I am making it an issue because I have actually done combat and used helicopters myself and found them too powerful. Obviously, it is easier to learn how to fly a helicopter than it is to learn the skills to shoot down a helicopter with infantry. You can only use limited means to engage in air-to-air combat with infantry or light vehicles. If you master the launcher, you may be able to drop a helicopter unilaterally, but realistically, it is probably only the Liz, Rao, Stinger, or 12.7mm HMG. In contrast, helicopters can attack any target on the ground without much practice. Even specialized cats are destroyed unilaterally when aircraft coordinate. (In this case, the team may have been superior because the aircraft needed to coordinate.)
Are all matches that are overrun by aircraft veterans whose aircraft pilots have trained with blood, sweat, and tears? Are they the result of the inferior side neglecting anti-aircraft? I have over 1500 hours of play time, do you think I have not put in the same effort? What about the fact that although we are dealing with different weapons, we are using them in the same way, but we are not fighting on equal terms? I am not asking for something that can easily shoot down a helicopter piloted by a veteran if you pull the trigger without thinking. You will need to anticipate the aircraft's maneuvers and fire. (It will be less maneuverable (than a helicopter), more conspicuous by shooting, and exposed to other threats on the ground. So that will take practice. One way to do it is to increase the number of cats. But I think there is too much reliance on cats. So I think anti-aircraft guns should be strengthened, be it light vehicles or fixed weapons at bases. At the very least, there should be at least as many anti-aircraft guns on the ground as there are aircraft.
Let's take a hundred steps and say that the anti-aircraft means provided now are sufficient. It is next to impossible for one person to shoot down an aircraft piloted by a veteran. You need to work with other allies. However, I think the mechanism for cooperation is currently insufficient for solo play. It would be better if we could just call out to those around us, "Let's shoot down that aircraft together!" but there is no such mechanism. So, at the very least, I think we should strengthen the mechanism for cooperation with friends.

@UP_Hawxxeye You know what else BF1 and BFV had? Fixed AA! A suggestion I made a few posts back for 2042 or the next game, that was rejected as being ridiculous.

DICE need to stop trying to force teamplay by making single weapons/gadgets weak. There is no teamplay needed for pilots to farm infantry, so there should be a way for infantry to fight back that's effective. If that's through skill-based weapons fine, but pilots need less skill, so give us fixed AA also - otherwise you're relying on that lucky skill shot to deal with a air vehicle - and that's not balanced.

Also suggesting the railgun to deal with air vehicles - I shouldn't need to compromise my primary weapon to have to deal with air vehicles, if I don't have fixed AA to call on, then engineer gadgets and launchers should do the job. If the answer is "use AA vehicles" then fine, make aircraft less lethal to infantry and make this an air vs ground vehicle fight.

"Skill issue" is often banded back to infantry players who complain about air vehicles and how OP they are, but if DICE make the game so unbalanced that you need hundreds of hours of game time just to deal with a single helo - how is that inclusive for the casual games or new players? That's a certain sales disaster if that's what they want. BF isn't a sim - it used to be a fun place for casual players and skill players alike to enjoy gaming. Now it isn't.

DICE more or less have the infantry vs ground vehicles balance about right now - there are ways to deal with ground vehicles that don't require pure luck or huge skill, but they have largely ignored the air vs infantry or just made it worse through constant infantry changes and nerfs. There are SO MANY assists for pilots with lock on notification, missile incoming notification, missile direction, infinite flares, repair and ammo, easy aim gun reticules, stealth modes - and that without talking about how lethal the weapons themselves are.

DICE need to decide what the next game is - is it a BF game for casual gamers, or some sort of sim. They need to get it right because games like Delta Force Hawk Ops are waiting in the wings to steal their already dwindling players....

We definitely needed some stationary AA guns in 2042. The ones on the relatively recent map are a joke + they are fodder for AGMs

Personally I consider my personal duty to abandon my loadout and change to whatever I need to try to crash that helicopter. If I need to switch to something with missiles, I will redeploy to change for it, same with the rest. I did get desperate enough to use the railgun rifle and the anti material rifle vs the Nightbird in Haven a few times.

I avoid talking about "skill issue". Skill is the measure of good someone is at something.
What most people lack the most in my teams (at least the ones that get hammered by air) is "effort".
As my Kickboxing master said a few weeks ago: "People who make mistakes are people who are at least trying, we should not be embarrassed for our failures as long as we are still trying"

I mean... who many times were you not doing our best in order to nail some pilot and your team seemed to try to ignore the problem.

They definitely did not have to give pilots all those warnings for the manually guided rockets too. I only need to hear the incoming TGM and immediately attempt a barrel roll without even seeing it.

I do hope that DFH ops will be good enough to make DICE look itself in the mirror a bit.

    @Gurz1019_MP

I do not know which region you are from but it could be fun to try to see if we can one day team up to see how much we can do vs enemy helis.

It always gets a lot better if there are more people who try together.

@UP_Hawxxeye I will happily switch class/specialist to access a gadget to try and deal with an air vehicle that is dominating, but I draw the line at compromising my primary weapon to do so - that definitely should not be needed.

Alternatively, make the AA/AT weapons picks up - like in BF1 with the Tankgewehr and Elite Crates, Hardline with Stinger pickups, BF4, BFV etc. In fact - every other BF game pretty much had pickup weapons.

Something that could have made a difference to the balance in 2042.

@cyromilia I don't like the way you sound as if you know the truth. If one ace pilot has complete control of the battlefield, that is undeniably OP. Because an infantry ace cannot control a game of 128 men by himself.

There was one more important comment. I play 128CQ mainly for game modes where vehicles are available, but most of the time there are close to 30 engineers. Ideally, I think it would be optimal to have a balance of all of each soldier on the team. I believe that having so many Engineers represents either a lack of objective capability in the Engineers, or that the vehicles are too powerful. Either that, or some players may be reluctant to make the choice, basically because they can't deal with the vehicles except for the Engineers, so they use the Engineers just in case they encounter them and can counter them. Personally, I think it would be better to reduce the frequency of vehicle appearances rather than adjusting their firepower. I think it is necessary to reduce the frequency of encountering vehicles on the battlefield and reduce the need for engineers. Only when there is an optimal balanced distribution among the various armies will players be given the freedom to choose their armies. As it is now, there are too many situations where the player is forced to choose the Engineers out of necessity. This limits how you fight as an infantryman and is not fun. Well, I think this problem can be greatly improved by improving the mechanism of cooperation within friendlies.

@UP_Hawxxeye About barrel roll, this actually doesn't work always, or actually it's common. If you do it too soon, you get hit most likely. And depends of altitude ofc, in nb gravity is like sv_gravity 1200. It sounds unbelievable, but it happens often. Even i do flips and flops, hits well. 😀
