- UP_LordPlumber2 years agoSeasoned Ace@ElliotLH Sadly we have to wait for over a year for the next game to be released. And I'm too worried about it.
So many red flags have been plaguing the Battlefield franchise and the gaming industry as a whole that I'm not sure if I want to see further carnage that might come.
SBMM has ruined CoD and I'm positive EA will do the same to BF. That curse has already touched 2042 and I don't like that. On top of EA's new and useless anti-cheat, visual recoil, and other questionable design decisions, I will live in fear until the nest game comes out. - NazT552 years agoSeasoned Ace
I will be very wary of buying the next BF. Maybe I hyped myself up too much for portal but there was so much potential to be had there that they wasted it. I personally believe if the tem didn't have to play catch up with the state of the game when it was released wr would hqve seen mote content released for portal.
- ElliotLH2 years agoHero+@UP_LordPlumber I can definitely understand that, and have some concerns too admittedly. Some are the same to ones you've mentioned, like SBMM, but I'm trying to be optimistic.

Probably 2.5 years before next game is out. They aren't going to make BF6 in 18 months
They should delay the next battlefield until they have something impressive.
And in the meanwhile do seasons 8, 9, 10. For 2042.
64 players is not enough for the new game, I will probably pass.
If the new game dont have dedicated servers, replays of every match, spectator mode, so I can bann the cheaters manually I will pass too
- UP_LordPlumber2 years agoSeasoned Ace@RUMPLE9 They already confirmed the next game for 2025 though

They have it in GT7 and i think it works well for everyone. Without it, me and friends would not be able to enjoy the game. I get into lobbies with A+ drivers and it is a lonely race going around and around by myself not being able to catch up to anyone.
Same thing the other way around. I create a lobby and an A+ driver joins. He is by himself up there at the front of the pack, even laps some people. He leaves the lobby after one race because of the lack of fun/challenge.
Daily races come in: races are organized by 'driver rating'. The fun and excitement is back.
Can the same thing not be applied to BF?

About the end of BF2042:
"They promised 4 seasons..."
I need more detailed info on that before i make a full price purchase at launch.
If the base game comes agin with so few maps, i would like them to commit to 4 maps per season.
So i know 16 more maps are coming.
Otherwise i will not see value in the product and may just purchase it later at a discounted price. - UP_Hawxxeye2 years agoLegend
It might sound strange but I am kind of relieved that I will finally be free from the weekly Battlepass OCD once season 7 ends.
Like it has been said above, I come that they will finally eat crow and unlock the full progression in Portal like it was at launch. Nobody cares about what level of T1 mastery others have anymore.

So instead of making content for a season 8, they added a visual recoil no one asked for. I am disappointed they are stopping now. I figured 8 would be the final and come this fall. To go 1.5 years without anything isn't ideal. Player numbers are going to drop more now and why play this game when you have nothing to look forward too. I mean even COD doesn't do that before the next game drops. You get a season right till the end. I think also having all those studios working on this game could end up not working in our favor.
I just don't have a good feeling about this. I never would have bought anything extra if I knew they only were going to do 4 seasons from the start. I'm down for paying for premium if it means more weapons and more maps.

The game will be three years old soon. I recall them saying when it launched that as soon as a battlefield game launches some of the developers jump on the next battlefield already, if we have to wait till the end of the next year for the next game that means they had four years to work on the next battlefield theoretically.
In the current game they released only one new map per season. So if they can't show up with a decent product by the end of next year, what have they been doing for 4 years???? They are in deep trouble if they can't show a decent battlefield game with the right amount of content by the end ofNext year. So sad because I love the game. I'm gonna stay positive though. .

1 GT7 is a racing game where you're in a free-for-all all, competing against I believe up to 19 other players
2 Battlefield 2042 has 128 players and there are many many many many more "stats" to take into account other than "My vroom vroom is faster than yours"
3 Its a team AND squad-based game. So setting up a team and squads in a 128-player match with a similar skill level, especially when you're dealing with players that are in top 1% is impossible. SBMM in 2042 ends up shafting itself and you for that matter. I often play with some dumb potatoes against tryhard vehicle turds because there aren't enough 3.0+ k/d infantry players in this game, so I end up playing against heli tryhards most of the time while my and enemy team is filled with infantry potatoes deluxe.
4 Any FPS game is a casual environment whether you like or not. I shouldn't be punished simply because I managed to get better than other players. - JOGAGATYA2 years agoSeasoned Ace

- 1 on 1 shooting as infantry so K/D- vehicle combat so maybe time spent in vehicles
Since so many stats are tracked, i think it is ok to consider these two stats when matchmaking.
Even for the casual gamers, the one on one shooting experience is what matters. If it is frustrating, there is no joy, less time playing the game/ less money spent on cosmetics. Maybe this experience is even more important to casuals! But whatever floats the boat. I am ok without the SBMM too.In GT7 there is also the safety rating that is considered when matchmaking. (If you tend to hit other cars, you get matched against other terrible drivers. Works well. 🙂

@RUMPLE9They already confirmed the next game for 2025 thoughNo they didn’t. It doesn’t reflect in the financials for 2025. They have a weird dating system, so I think they reset to 2026 in the fall of 2025, so maybe it could pop out late in 2025… but I seriously doubt it. It’s 2026 at the soonest. If they rush it again, it will be another nightmare as the roll out for 2042 was.

I agree, it’s almost a relief. I like to complete things, so after S7 I’ll be free to move on. Helldivers is sounding so fun.
- Hudson15312 years agoSeasoned Ace@ATFGunr I couldn't find anything confirmed from dice either it was all vague and wishy washy.
Oct-Nov 2025 or into 2026
Either way not pre ordering this one. I know games eventually come to an end (the bad ones). But, what a stupid way to end the game. The last 3 seasons were just awful, no creativity at all it felt more like a testing ground. Man I was really looking forward to "2" new maps.
- UP_LordPlumber2 years agoSeasoned Ace@ATFGunr It wouldn't be rushed. The current game came out in Nov 2021, and if the next game comes out in the usual October/November 2025 that would mean they had 4 years of development which is more than any other Battlefield game in the history of the franchise. All previous games had 2-3 year gap, some even 1 year like BF3 coming 1 year and 7 months after BC2
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@UP_LordPlumber That’s assuming they had started on it, which from everything I read has only really started in the last 1.5 years. They are still moving resources into place. They haven’t even fully decided to have a campaign (I hope but it’s not a deal breaker) or only MM. How many times have they changed lead now? I’m coming to the conclusion that gaming success as an industry is going to be its own downfall. Too big, too focussed on maximizing profit, too corporate. I think it’ll continue on this course for a while, but the big blockbusters time in the sun is ultimately done. It’ll rise from its ashes but be a different business model. If it’s 3 years to a great game, and they’re maybe halfway into that now, early 26 is realistic eh?
- GrizzGolf2 years agoSeasoned Ace
2026 is way too long without any content to me but I could see it happening.
- @ATFGunr I agree, the signs on the wall are not very positive. So far the only official news we had that concerns the next BF title are leadership changes and closing down a studio, and now we get another studio on board.
On that new studio, I've played a bit of Star Wars: Squadrons, but eventually dropped that game because it had a too steep learning curve. If they will be involved in any of the aerial vehicle gameplay, the days of everybody and their grandma being able to control a chopper are over!
Another thing that caught my eye, they now refer to Stadium as a revamped map rather than a new map. - Man_iLoveFishing2 years agoSeasoned Ace
Wtf dice, make it paired number. 8
- Hudson15312 years agoSeasoned Ace@JOGAGATYA Well apprantley the next battlefield will be "NATO" v a large private army" and the studio is going back to basics and playing it safe.
Now that source is from Tom Henderson so take it with a grain of salt - Alethes2 years agoSeasoned Ace

EA’s fiscal year always ends on March, 31st. Andrew Wilson did mention in an analysts call last year that the next title is not within FY25. This obviously means not before March ‘25. Now, with the officially announced curtain call on ‘2042’ plus the hiring of a new studio I’d wager we’re entering the relatively final stages of development of the new game. It would not make sense for it to be released much later than June ‘25, I’d speculate.
Interestingly also, a Credit Suisse analyst predicts two BF titles within the next four years:
