I have a similar but different problem. I cleared out the undead in the village, went to the rift to go find the mayor .. and he just doesn'ts how up. The marker telling me where to go to the mayor is either on top of or inside a cliff. The nearby mine tunnel leads to a door that says: "This door cannot be opened from this side."
