Yeah, I was thinking it had to do with my graphics card as well, but it's strange that it worked fine before on Windows 7, but it isn't working now on Windows 8.1. I didn't have any graphics issues before (only lagging), so I was thinking that it might have been a wrong configuration or something down the line, or perhaps OS-specific.
Is there any way to upgrade the video card on a laptop? I've also heard things about using an external video card, would that work?

The separate card-adapter is either too slow to be useful for gaming or so expensive, you will be better off with a replacement machine. In either case, you have to use a standard desktop type display screen.
- Anonymous11 years agoDamn, that sucks. But then again, my computer's already a bit of a senior in tech-years, even though I've been upgrading its parts. Guess I'll just have to wait until I save up to build a proper PC rig. Thanks anyways!

You are welcome, of course!

Using external GPUs on laptops may become a lot more mainstream in the coming years.
"Intel is already working with AMD to allow for the hot plugging of external GPUs, which will allow plug and play capabilities. The company expects the drivers to be ready for Windows 10 soon, and it may usher in a new age of external GPUs for gaming."

AMD has / had been working on a more standarized something all the way back in its ATI pre-merger days. It's good to hear something may come of it.
