  • Well guys. I tried with the support about trying to link my Xbox account and they told me the same thing as always. I guess you guys got lucky.

EDIT: Contacted them again and they fixed my problem. Thanks guys. Today is a day to remember.

  • Me too, I was told about four months ago that nothing could be done to link my real account so I should make another account. I saw the updates in this thread today so I contacted chat and was told nothing could be done for another 2 months!

    What should I do now?

@millwalker Try again. And ask for the exception of the rule. It took me 3 support guys until one was willing to help me.
  • It wasn't straightforward when I did it, the mods on this site didn't understand the problem after 7 months. The live chat guys were in India or something.

They asked me for the Gamertag I'd like to link, I gave it to them and they said it was invalid, which it is obviously wasn't.

What they were really asking for was the "lifetime" tag that was previously linked, I gave them that then said in as many ways I could that the account was dead.

Inactive, closed, dead, gone, deleted, inaccessible. After that, they went quiet for a few minutes and said try linking now. I did that by just logging into the new EA app that pops-up with Gamepass, with my EA/Origin credentials. Then got the confirmation to link, instead of the dreaded "lifetime nonsense"

Keep trying, you may get a dud operator, I had a guy called Rahul, he was really on the ball.

just tested with support - they say that they do not know what to do till you send this topic with information that you want to cut the time and you are sure that you want to clean the old connection
works for me! so it takes only 5,5 month to fix it

  • After like 8 months I was finally able to get them to do this.

It took me over an hour explaining over and over and over to the rep, but I FINALLY got my new account linked.

Can confirm guys, you can get a new account added.

Also able to finally get this fixed!  Had 10+ year old lost Xbox account that I unlinked 6+ months ago and still wasn't able to link to a different Xbox account yesterday.

Contacted chat support and described issue as something like "I have Xbox Game Pass which provides an EA Play subscription, but my primary EA Account was linked to the wrong Xbox gamertag many years ago".  Advisor "mayank" was able to get me right through the process without any miscommunication, and didn't mention a 1 time exception maybe because I already had waited 6 months.

The next problem I had was that the EA Desktop app erroring on launch after I signed out of a temporary EA Account and was trying to use my real one.  I uninstalled the 'EA App', and reinstalled it from the Xbox link.  That fixed it.

  • After seeing the recent comments, I too have been able to finally link my two prime accounts together!  The advisor said it was a 'One time flag pass' to allow me to do it.

It's such a relief they are now allowing this. It looks like the message has finally reached EA, although it's not something they are publishing anywhere!

I have also contacted EA support through twitter. First they said it wasn't possible. When I asked for the exception to the rule to link a different Xbox account to my main EA account.

Straight away got an "Okay" and he linked a different Xbox account to my main EA account.

This "solution" took forever, but I'm happy enough that EA is finally making exceptions like this possible, which should have been the case months ago.

    For me this is solved.

  • (edited because it was solved see bottom)

GG to everyone who was able to finally get it fixed.

Sadly I'm still without a solution even after contacting support 3 times.

Xbox gamertag is linked to an old EA account which has been closed according to support.

That old EA account was made with an old email address to which i no longer have access to.

According to support i need to login to that old account which seems impossible.

Like many of you i asked for an exception to the rule but with no luck.

So my Xbox gamertag is still being held hostage by EA.

Came back to edit my post after a twitter DM solved my issue. Thanks to the great help from TJ over there i was finally able to connect my current EA account to my xbox account.

  • @Scrpzr Can confirm I was able to finally switch xbox accounts connected on my EA account.

Although the first advisor I talked to through EA support took about an hour and couldn't help me then told me to talk to another advisor which I did. I explained my situation exactly the same way I did for the first advisor to the second one and we were able to change it within FIVE MINUTES.

Guess you have to be lucky in who you can get in support that know what they are doing.
