- @Ultrasonic_77 You've summed up my thoughts on it. I'll be both surprised and disappointed if there isn't a 60 FPS option on consoles. They must not have decided on it yet, or are still working on it before announcing it. As I said, the status of this feature will determine which version I'll be buying. I have far more friends on the XBox than I do the PC, so I'm pulling for the console version. It's also a lot easier and more convenient for me to fire up the Series X than to configure, select, and launch PC games in the same home theater system. The multiplayer aspect of this game may not be as critical in this game as 2K23, because it looks like EA Sports Golf might finally have a career mode that I want to play every day!
For context I'd be playing on PS5 and found the 60 Hz update to 2k21 when it arrived was a very welcome improvement. I play all games I can in performance modes (60 or 120 Hz) and for me this jump in frame rates has actually been the biggest graphical boost with the current console generation.
@Ultrasonic_77I went and checked the listing for the game in the Microsoft Store and it doesn't show "60 FPS +" under the "Technical Capabilites" for the game. I then jumped over to the catalog listing for EA's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game, which will be coming out after EA Sports PGA TOUR. It's "Technical Capabilities" section lists "60 FPS +". I found this to be a bit foreboding. If they can list the Star Wars game as having 60 FPS +, even more in advance of the game's release, it would seem they would have already been able to indicate the same for the the golf game, with its release being a month ahead of the Star Wars game? I'm starting to think I'm going to be backed into buying the PC version, buy hoping for a miracle here!
@JCauthen09 , I don't understand how a dynamic 'action' type game like Star Wars would be listed @ 60fps but a golf game where there is limited motion and movement would not be capable of such a framerate. Assuming it is simply a trade-off between high quality visuals and the game 'dynamics' ?? Disappointing if this is the case. Hoping EA will release an upgrade post release.
Right now I think there's scope for the Microsoft store info. to just be incomplete/inaccurate but the listing does of course raise questions. There's no rush for anyone to pre-order though so let's see if some more info. appears.

Frame rate demands aren't so much about how much things move, but more the complexity of the image. Think resolution, number of assets, texture maps, draw distances and in particular ray-tracing. To achieve 60 or 120 Hz in games there is always a trade-off in terms of reducing such image complexity vs 30 Hz. Personally this is a trade-off I basically always find is worth it.
- @blueblood1995 I don't know what to attribute this to. I have enough of an understanding of the issue to see why it would be possible to have the game double its frame rate at half the resolution. It's pretty clear that EA is placing a lot of emphasis on the image quality for this title. Gamerbrave asked Gameplay Designer, Craig Penner the question: "Will Xbox Series X & PS5 have 4K with 60fps?". To which Craig responded, "Yeah, 4K 30 FPS. And that was just to be able to get the kind of visual quality targets that we’re looking at, for all the courses." It's a craftily worded negative/affirmative deflection that would make many a politician envious, but it also kind of gives me an indication as to how firmly they're entrenched in the 30 FPS camp at this point.
- @Ultrasonic_77 Thanks for bringing all these other points about graphics features that put demands on the processing that aren't obvious to most people. I think the current choices make for some great screen shots, but in the long run for me, the swing animation is going to have to feel responsive and smooth for the best gaming experience. I'll gladly take the image quality sacrifices, even if that means 1080p, to yield a 60 FPS performance. I can spot the difference between 4K and 1080p, especially at a distance of 7 feet from my 55" display, but the difference for me isn't worth the loss of 30 FPS in the framerate.
My question is simply this; why would this game be different from any others which offer a choice between 4K/30 FPS and 1080p/60 FPS? There may be a simple answer that is escaping me right now, but I'm willing to be educated about it.

I really wish the interviewer had asked a follow up question to try to clarify though!
Edit: virtually no current gen games manage 4k @ 60 Hz so the answer to the original question was basically bound to be no.
DICE's Battlefield 2042 (XBox Series X) runs at 4k 60 fps on the Frostbite engine - I would hope that EA developers could manage the same for PGA Tour. If it means sacrificing a little video fidelity I'm okay with that! Oh, BTW, I'll be playing on Series X.

Well it's a 4k 60 Hz target but it holds up well most of the time. F1 22 runs at 4k 60 Hz too actually, with a basically locked frame rate but scope for resolution to drop a little at times. Neither use ray tracing in gameplay though whereas it appears that PGA Tour does and managing 60 Hz with this in use seems a step too far on current gen machines. Personally I'd much rather have 60 Hz than ray tracing though!
Nice to hear from you SouthernSNIDELY! Battlefield 2042 is a great example of a Frostbite game being able to handle 4K at 60 FPS. If I'm not mistaken, Madden 23 and FIFA 23 run at 60 FPS in 4K on the Series X.
Thanks JC, always enjoy reading your posts. Really looking forward to this title. Hopefully the gameplay presentation and cameras will provide more than what 2K is offering right now. I do enjoy the Golf Club series, but it certainly lacks in real feel of tournament golf.

^Actually I really didn't mean this did I 🙂. I was thinking of 4k @ 120 Hz. Doh!
Although 4k @ 60 Hz with ray-tracing is not something the hardware seems to be capable of.

Nice to see some familiar names on here. I have already preordered the game for the xbox series X so I will take whatever comes in terms of framerate, not much choice really my PC is old now and only used for surfing the web. I hope it is 60 fps but not a deal breaker.

I hate 'pop in' for example.
Re. the final question my personal guess is still that it won't be different to the vast majority of other games and will have a performance mode.
- @Ultrasonic_77 LOL... I'm glad you came back in here and corrected that. I was getting ready to compile a list that's two pages long of what I've found. I know Forza Horizon 5 runs ultra smooth on my Series X in 4K @ 60 FPS, and that got me looking into others besides Madden 23 and NHL 23, which I've played the EA Access versions of. Neither of those game does the trick for me gameplay wise, but they look good and at least flow well.
Is there a game that's 4K and runs at 120 FPS? I can't imagine that on a Series X, unless it was heavily stylized. - @terrywilkie My gaming PC has an i5-4440 processor and that comes in under EA's minimum recommended processor in the game specs, where they specify an i5 6600. However, EA's minimum spec for the graphics card is a Geforce GTX 1050. I would hope that my GTX 1070 (8 GB) would be more than enough to offset my under spec processor. I don't know for sure though.
Then again, the recommended specs they are publishing may be factoring in the idea that the game is going to be played in 4K res. Like I've said earlier, I'd gladly drop back to 1080p to get 60 FPS.

The following question and answer from the link below makes me more worried that consoles won't have an option other than 30 Hz ☹️. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be the case as it would be a huge let down.
OS: As we understand it, consoles will be capped at 30FPS. Will the PC version be uncapped or allow 60FPS?
CP: That’s correct regarding consoles at 30 FPS. And YES… PC has options for 30FPS, 60FPS, and unlocked framerate.
(CP = game designer Craig Penner.)

@Ultrasonic_77That's a bummer. It's also quite a shame with the latest Frostbite engine and with the new generation consoles supporting well over 30 frames. I have the series s, I would love to have 1440p at 60 or 90 FPS. Hopefully soon after post launch there may be an upgrade.
Makes you wonder why they just made this for next gen consoles only, when it's going to run 1080p at 30🤔

For what it's worth I believe it's going to be 4k @30 Hz but not the right trade off for me as discussed above.
(It feels very odd talking to someone with the same avatar by the way!)
Even so, this still could run on Xbox One or PS4, performance-wise frame rate and resolution, and if you're playing a console with a monitor like I am, there's a lot of people that aren't going to spend the money for a 4K monitor. TV surely.
- @Ultrasonic_77 Just read that at Operation Sports, Ultra, and was on my way to share it here. Well, I must say I'm bummed to hear it, although I had already mostly conditioned myself to accept it. My hope now is that my i5-4440, Geforce GTX 1070 8GB, 16 GB RAM will be able to get me 60 FPS at 1080p. I Must say I'm less hopeful that even that will be achievable now, but it's hard to sort out the recommended specs on PC games. My CPU comes in a little under recommended spec, but my graphics card is two notches up the ladder from recommended, so who knows.
At least I'll have some customizing options available to me with the PC version, so this interview that was published at OS helped me make my purchase decision. - @64mamaluke I'm pretty sure that it's going to be 4K @ 30 FPS, but 30 FPS is still 30 FPS no matter what resolution it's in. I'm with you though... a next-gen sports game at 30 FPS? That's a head scratcher for me!?
- @64mamaluke I can understand them wanting to present the game in 4K resolution for eye appeal. That's no doubt going to net some sales they probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. What I don't understand is why is it so hard to at least offer an OPTION to change the resolution down to something that's going to allow the game to run at 60 FPS? Let the game default to 4K @ 30 FPS. Those who aren't going to notice the difference will settle for that and you'll never hear another peep out of them. On the other hand, those who want the 60 FPS option at the expense of graphics fidelity are going to be more than willing to go into an options menu and select the 1080p/60 FPS option. It's been done in lots of other EA Sports games, why not here?
