I don't really understand all the baching on the game. I agree with the fact that the game need some update but for me I never experience any big problem with the game. The gameplay is really good, the graphic make this game the better golf game on the market. You said that EA doesn't listen player but everything is a business. The game was not a big succes story and it wasn't suppose to be because it's sad but the golf is not the main sport and the amount of golf player who also play video game are very small.
Ea with an obviously smaller budget than its other sports games, managed to provide us with the best golf game on the market, with graphics that explode those of 2k and gameplay that receives controversial opinions but which for me is really superior and more realistic than 2K.
They also succeeded despite the low sales of the game, providing us with regular updates with magnificent new terrains and certain features requested by the communities, obviously there remain several problems to be resolved, but we must understand that in the current state of the game success of the game I wouldn't be surprised if the game development team is reduced to 2-3 guys.
I am an extremely passionate golf player and like everyone else I would always like more from this game, but you have to remain realistic and appreciate what EA has delivered to us.
Essentially, it appears EA thought they could release an updated "Rory McIllroy PGA Tour", with Augusta added, and assume it would sell. I frankly dismiss the "smaller budget" conversation when it had to cost a boatload of money to retain/re-obtain the Masters/Augusta license, not to mention the Ryder Cup, Official World Golf Rankings, all the clubs/gear brands, etc.
The shot types sounded cool at first, but it's basically made the game become "use the meta shot types to go low", no matter what difficulty you play on. I use about as "sim" settings as you can, and have to have AI difficulty in career mode cranked to 95, and still have to manually limit my skills and specs to make the game competitive.
Anyway, there are still major issues/confusing decisions that just make me shake my head:
- career mode leaderboards shown between holes no longer show the previous hole completed, like they used to.
- challenges still hang up and freeze, preventing you from getting all sponsor gear, unless you change AI players' outfits and get lucky enough that they do load?
- the ball still gets moved around for no reason; I hit a shot to 10 feet away from the cup, ball on the green, at TPC Boston Hole 2...but my putt magically moved to within 5 feet???
- why do we still have a triple bogey limit?
- cup physics are all over the place...I have had some cool lip-outs, and then some interactions between ball and cup that put this game in an alternate universe where physics don't exist
- AI opponents, despite devs saying that they fixed short-game issues, still hit the ball across greens on chip shots and pitches. They also still hit -20% drives on par-5s for reasons unknown.
- the store has not had really any new items added to it since before the Ryder Cup update...and most of the solid Nike shirts that do cycle in there are bugged and look terrible.
- crossplay, anyone? Otherwise, I don't even bother with online because it's silly how they do it and it takes a while to even find a match.
I still play this game for daily tournaments and a career mode round or two, but it's lost its long-term appeal when they basically said that there'd be no more content added and they'd work on "fixing things"...and then didn't actually fix anything in the previous bigger patch (not this hotfix that came out yesterday). In fact, it was quite the opposite, as more things got broken - namely, the career mode in-game scoreboard.
