Re: Sims 4 - can’t craft cross stitch patterns, knitting patterns, etc

Try the following

  • Close the game
  • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
  • Repair the game
  • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry. Be aware that your claimed event rewards will also be gone for the time being but you will get them back with your other things.
  • Start a new save game
  • Check if you still have the error
  • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

  • I was unable to knit or cross stitch too. When I did what you said I was able to again. It also worked when I started a new game without doing this. Can you let me know how to make it work in my active game?

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)- Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.

If it doesn't work on your save game before you put anything else back, please post back.

  • I did just the saves (not the entire folder but the saves modified in 2024). Cross stitch and knitting still did not work from my old save. Both worked in the new saves I started while troubleshooting. I repaired the game and tried again with the same results.

I don't know if this is relevant, but while it was broken, I was able to create a friendship bracelet using one of them, but I can't remember which. Also for knitting I have the option to frog my project so it had to have worked at some point in the game. When I tried she didn't do anything.

  • It seems to be just this sim. I played as a neighbor and they're able to do both. I sent them to my sim's house and they were able to cross stitch from her box.

  • @crinrict Thank you for the link. I just assumed the knitting and cross stitching issues were somehow related.

I uploaded her to the gallery. The household name is Greetings Mortals. I initially downloaded her off the gallery and she came with a bunch of skills maxed out (I wish the gallery told you things like that). I started a new save with the original copy and there were no issues, but I don't think this one had issues at the beginning either. I bought hoops off of one of the Crumplebottoms before ever trying to cross stitch, and I think I initially tried to start cross stitch through one of the hopes instead of the box and it didn't work, in case that matters.

@prettypea Do you have the original of this Sim ? Did you cheat add/remove anything to her ?

EDIT: I looked at her hidden commodities and found this

She also has a value of 0 for Guitar and flower arranging which also doesn't work for her. It's like the game doesn't know what to do cause she doesn't have a level at all.

I have no clue where this is coming from though.

Removing those values allows her to cross stich and knit.

  • @crinrictI uploaded the sim I started with to my gallery, the household name is Greetings Mort. She is modded because she has a trait from Nisa's mod, which I later removed. (She was able to access the cross stitch box with this trait when I loaded her into the same game/household as the broken sim. I later replaced that trait.

The other cheats I used were to max out the Character Values. The original came with some skills maxed. It's possible I started going through and removing them but gave up.

EDIT: I think your edit and this post might have answered things.

  • @crinrict  I changed her cross stitch skill to 1 and it fixed it. I've never really messed around with skill cheats before so had no idea it could break things like this.

    I really appreciate your help!

@prettypea yeah, the original looks fine so it was something that came later. the Char values cheats don't do that but the lowering skill cheat is currently a bit broken so maybe when you used that something broke ?

Anyways, yeah setting that and knitting to 1 should fix the issue. Same for flower arranging and guitar. They are also broken.
