This is a really good idea actually. In city living there are landlords so why not.

At the moment my Sims purchase a retail lot if I want a place for them in another world. You can just lock the doors if you don't want randoms wandering in... it's usually paparazzi for some reason with my retail lots.

I usually have a store and attach an upstairs apartment to or a small bungalow/house. On a Sulani lot, I've added a small store front which leads to an underground cavern style store selling Sulani collectables and a 2 bedroom beach house next to it with gates and doors locked so it's private. In effect you can do this without adding a store.

There are so many lots in jungle adventure and outdoor retreat too it would be great if you could own one as a second home.
