EA has made no announcement of a Sims 5 so we don't know if there will be one and if there eventually is one when it would then be released.

I've just read a trusted news outlet that understands an October announcement may be imminent, but that a version of the game would still be some way off. So, okay, that's fine I'm happy with that I guess. But what concerns me is their understanding that a Live Service format of the game is a strong possibility. It's just media reporting but I'm extremely choosy about where I get my news.
I don't really want to see that happen to the game but that's just my own opinion and it nothing has been confirmed yet as far as I know.
So watch this space I guess...
The only October announcement I have seen is that the Sims 4 basegame will be free to download for new players.
- @jpkarlsen That's all I'd seen so far too until I was doing my usual daily look at Digital Spy last night. It's just a general TV/Film/Game Entertainment Site I've trusted for many years and they are huge Sims fans too, giving reviews and pack recommendations and sometimes an insider scoop. The full article is there now.
