Re: Being shot around corners and thru doors

@Midnight9746

I agree that Respawns policy on totally no restrictions on high ping is stupid. They should have a limit of like 80 ms or so to be able to play ranked. But I must criticize your way of just assuming stuff and therefore spreading alot of misinformation. You are just assuming that high ping makes you harder and sometimes even impossible to hit, that high ping makes you teleport around. First of all, how do you even know those players you saw do this had high ping? You just assume this.

Do me a favor. Go play on another regions and see if you become invincible only because you have high ping... You wont.  You will be able to hit people before they react but you will also be shot alot around corners.  But it is quite funny to be able to instabeam someone before you even appear on their screens, which is possible with high ping. Here is a short clip of me playing at an asian server from EU. These poor players didnt even react. But all and all will playing on high ping put you in a disadvantage compared to playing on low ping since looting, pinging and hit markers will be much harder. Just look at the first guy I shoot as he drops down. So many hits in the air that didnt give me a hit marker until much later because of the high ping. If I was on low ping, I would have seen him get knocked mid air and be able to save ammo in the clip or snap to another target. Now I wasted a full clip.

PS on another topic; I recently saw a guy saying that Asian servers was full of hackers... Were were all of them when I played there? I played a good 20 matches and pretty much stomped every match. hmmm strange. 😉

@SbmmMakesMeSmurf To an extent, high ping helps the player who has it. I've had a high ping before, (not by choice), and was very surprised by how many fights I was able to slip in and out of without dying and how many kills I was able to get as well.

What I've meant as well is that while at a higher ping, lower ping players don't see you right away when you turn corners and you can shoot them after they turned corners, and the game would favor your shots more often due to lag compensation.

Being shot around the corners and through doors that is nothing.

RecentlyI am knocked down and only after that I see enemy fire in my direction!

This is competitive shooter experience right there!

All of this on low ping servers with no connection issues reported with red icons or performance metric.

Read this blog post from the developers, especially the section "I am being killed while behind a door/wall, and sometimes I roll back to my previous position" and you will understand why it happens and why its sadly is necessary.

    https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/apex-legends/news/servers-netcode-developer-deep-dive

Here are some key points which kinda summarizes it if you by any chance are the kind of people who just want to complain without using the brain. But ofc you arent. Arent we all intelligent and rational people on this forum 😉

    • “Our servers have to constantly look at not only what’s happening for you and your opponent at that moment, but also what was happening from both your perspectives at the time both of you input your actions,”
    • “Lag compensation is the art of merging slightly different experiences into one shared reality.”
    • “Some games always give the advantage to players with lower ping, but we actively choose not to with our system. Players with low ping don’t always have an advantage over high-ping players.
    • “It feels bad to get shot when you think you’re behind cover due to bad ping. It also feels bad to get shot by somebody before you could even see them due to bad ping. But the nonsense is distributed symmetrically,”

So if you think about it, everything about it make sense. Having a game of 60 players with varying ping to the server IS like having 60 different slightly un-synced realities that have to agree on one final outcome for every action. And respawn wisely choose to make a middle-ground solution. I honestly dont think any other way of doing it would lead to a better and fairer gaming experience other than perhaps implement a maximum allowed ping. This would ofc punish people who cant afford good connection or live in rural areas in low tech countries.

I have read it multiple times in the past.

Basically they are confirming that they apply artificial lag to players (aka lag compensation) to give other players advantage.

    And this line:

"But the nonsense is distributed symmetrically"

    Is a lie.

With every fight the lag compensation changes. This means some algorithm decides for you how good You can be in certain engagements.

In one fight I can easily maneuver in other I can barely move! All on low ping servers with no connection issues.

This is how You manipulate the odds.

Yeah server capacity sucks, especially at peak hours and your lobby ping nor data central ping seem to be correlated to this. In at least 3/5 matches, I get terrible mini-freezes every time I do a quick movement like sliding and quickly turning 120 degree etc. It sucks and it totally messes up your sprays since you instinctively, by muscle memory, try to compensate your aim for the mini-freeze. I hate that Respawn doesnt even talk about this. Its like they figure that if they just stick their head in the sand and pretend this isnt a thing, it doenst exist..

But to go from there to saying that this is a deliberate part of the code, i,e an actual algorithm that actively "decide for you how good you can be in certain engagement" as you put it, is more than a stretch. But I wont argue with you about this any further since nothing I say will change your mind and vice versa.

@Balladalidila Backwards Reconciliation should have a max value (80to120ms), like any other game which uses it. but apex doesnt seem to care ...

Agreed. There should be some restriction how much ping-related "nonsense" as Respawn themselves put it is allowed to the game due to high ping players. Personally I think ranked should have a limit. If your connection cant give you a ping of max 80ish, then ranked isnt open for you for the sake competitive integrity. Its not unusual for players from other, smaller regions to play at EU or NA to get quicker queue times. This shouldnt be allowed. At least play at your own region. Who knows how much high ping players affect the overall server performance?

But you know Respawn; player retention is god in their eye so I doubt they change anything =)

@Balladalidila ping isent problem game expoits are, shot thru doors is old bug ,and araound corners newer heard.Playing on high ping is problem for player who play on that ping not for oposition.and if you have to high ping you got kicked out with code:net
  • @PsyhiX69 I believe you hit the nail in the coffin, bang on!

Absolutely, this is what I believe. It changes constantly. Especially depending on your previous matches. If you pay close enough attention to detail... you start to actually notice patterns. Manipulation at its finest. Some say rigged?

    Tin foil hat you say?
