- Palette24carats4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Midnight9746 I see a 301, a havoc and a pk, what s the problem?
@Palette24caratsThey're smurphs in gold lobbies. That's the problem. I did say there were smurphs AND smurphs with Rampages, two different types of smurphs, ones who use Rampages, and those who don't. Both make the climb back to plat difficult.
This is a FULL team of smurphs. Smurphing is considered cheating.- Palette24carats4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Midnight9746 Probably but there is no way to tell for sure, could be new players.
They are gold 4 and one silver. - @Palette24carats Idk if you’re dumb or you’re being sarcastic since when in the world has a level 20 reached gold apart from being a Smurf, bro it’s obvious when you see a Smurf idk how apex can just sit there and watch literal preds just on smallest accounts ruining plat people
- @Palette24carats First of all, I can handle new players just fine. Second of all they played like a bunch of preds. It's not hard to grasp the concept of the game, yeah, but this was more than "grasping the concept", they were beyond outplaying everyone else in the lobby. I wouldn't even be surprised if they had cheats too.
Keep in mind that you can start playing rank at level 10, they're two level 23's and a level 28. Also remember you start at Bronze 4. That's a bit of a climb to sliver and gold. Rank is a different play style, although matchmaking doesn't help, however it's unlikely a team of new players are going to be dominating a gold lobby that has plat and up players in it. (Badges and skydives suggested there's higher ranked players).
When I started playing Apex back in the first week, it took a while (even though I had a bad PC) to even reach Gold 4. Then when I got a better PC, it STILL took about a season or so to finally reach plat, where I've been hard stuck due to matchmaking issues. Most say that's diamond lobbies, but I guess I don't have what it takes to solo out of plat. Or maybe I don't care enough. We'll never know. - Palette24carats4 years agoSeasoned Ace@lops3004 any good COD player can hop up on Apex and be gold 4 in a day. Can be a good player coming from fortnite, cod, rainbow 6, pubg, etc
- @Palette24carats No really but alr
- Palette24carats4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Midnight9746 I can't judge if they played like preds since you shared a picture not a video.
- @Palette24carats Sharing a video would be "naming and shaming" because I don't have the tools to edit their names out of every frame it shows up in. But it doesn't matter if you think they're smurphs or not. The point is they're low level and clearly not "new" players. That's considered cheating in any compacity.

It's really easy to recognize Smurf when you are experienced player. They way they move, strafing, loot, change weapons, kill and run around that kills. Yesterday I played against level 4 or 8 player that was clearly smurfing.

There have been many posts/threads about Smurfing. Is it bannable, yes. Is it hard to detect/identify, yes.
From what others have said in the past and it is my understanding Smurfs are those that create another account and intentionally tank games in order to play and feed off of lower skilled/ranked players.
With that in mind how can you tell the difference from a ToS allowed alternate account?
Alternate accounts are allowed. Lets say that an X-box player, master/pred skill player on that platform decides to buy a PC and decides to make an account with that PC is that account a smurf account? No it is not. And yes that player is now low level and the change from console to PC or vice versa is not such a skill set change that that player will not be good. So yes they will be low level and ranking up or killing the lobby until SBMM catches up with them and starts putting them in harder lobbies.
What you have all been talking about might in fact be Smurfs but it could also be new accounts, alternate accounts etc.
The level cap of 500 with nothing to gain other than legend tokens encourages making alt accounts. Another reason is that there is currently no cross platform progression. With that in mind a player that has maxed level 500 on one platform and has access to another platform may decide to make a new alt account on the other platform in order to level up gain cosmetics on the new account that they do not yet have on the old account in the hopes that they can merge the accounts and have more stuff since cross progression is supposed to happen this year according to EA.
- @Asmodeus566 Cross-progression and a way to keep level 500's a reason to still use their main account is an absolute must.
I also have met several players who were like "oh I switched over from console", and none of these players play like a sweaty TTV Wraith, with the bald skin, heirloom, who can drop 20 players, 4k damage in a blink of an eye as a solo, yet a lot of low levels that I'm seeing are doing pretty much that, or act like they can.
In a sense, alternate accounts are okay, but also not. Having an account on console and PC is one thing, but I'm not sure if that's whats going on. It doesn't make much sense for someone to smurph and use another platform. @Midnight9746 what you said "In a sense, alternate accounts are okay, but also not. Having an account on console and PC is one thing, but I'm not sure if that's what's going on. It doesn't make much sense for someone to smurph and use another platform.".
There are also other reasons to have an Alt account and a main account:
1. Streamers usually have a main and an Alt. Are they smurfing, no.
2. ALGS players also have more than one account. Are they smurfing, no.
Also and I have been toying with this idea myself. A main account for ranked only and possibly making an Alt account for pubs/warm up. would this be smurfing, I do not think so.
Also due to recent ban waves there are probably many people that were affected and because of their situation had to make new accounts. Recently the top Pred had an account banned, the streamer Taxi had his account banned and I really do think that they made new ones and are back at climbing the ranks and levels . are they smurfs no is it fun to be matched against them as a new player/average or just above average player, no.
Eventually the new low level accounts will level up/rank up and SBMM will catch up to them and put them in other lobbies as befits their skill.
actual smurfs should be banned, that is those that intentionally tank games to stay at a lower MM to farm. However like I said how can you really tell the difference.
- @Asmodeus566 This season has been huge for smurphs. This suggests there's a significant, unmet demand for a certain kind of play experience, a cheating problem, or a massive design flaw.
As odd as it sounds, it might be worth allowing high-ranking players to play in lower-ranking lobbies as a "scrimmage" game with no RP gained. As a Plat player, alt-accounts are the only way to team with my buddies in silver who don't play as much (Diamond+ do this very often, usually for practice).
In any given match there will always be a mix of skill levels. The ranking system exists to sort these players out over time, and many want/need some control over this. I'd be willing to forego RP in Plat to team with my Silver buddies. It's hard to find good folks to play with. The current system disincentivizes diverse teams, and being able to "reach back" would remove the need for most to smurph. - @Asmodeus566 It's actually super easy to detect. A level 20 player with 900 kills is obviously smurfing. A sub-level-100 that has 4k & 20 bombs are obviously smurfing. I guarantee these players have 20-30+ K/D's, which would again, be an obvious sign of smurfing.
Someone who switched from Xbox to PC wouldn't drop a 20-bomb in their first 100 games.
"SBMM" never "catches up." The game pits me against Diamond+ players who always, always, always have 4k 20-bombs. I average 300 damage per game and have less than a 0.5 K/D. After 2,000 games, the "SBMM" has decided I'm a Diamond+, 4k 20-bomb player with unbelievably low stats. - RockDokRock4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@StelioRokos True, but by the time you've figured out the level 20 player with 900 kills the damage is kind of done already isn't it?
I honestly don't know the stats at their disposal and analytics available. I would be shocked if there was not at least one statistician type on the payroll that goes over the numbers of games, engagement, etc and tries to look for anomalies.
Really good players will naturally be outliers to the rest of the community, but, are there oddities in their play too? It's a hard problem. I still believe the problem is the community and not as much EA as there seems to be a not insignificant amount of people who will game the system any way they can so they can win or get lots of kills. It's a never ending battle and I can't see an easy solution to that. I won't touch ranked because it is so broken; it's not that they don't care, it's because it's populated by toxic players who will sacrifice everything so they get to have easy kills. Those people will always exist and find new ways to become toxic every day. It's a really sorry state of affairs that that is the way it is.
