Technically they grow from spores and can attach to meteorites and spaceships, IIRC.

Yep, you're right.If their spores spread to Andromeda, it'll be a while before we see a fully grown thresher maw...
Of course, bringing an asteroid crawling with them to Andromeda'd solve the problem completely 🙂
