He does cater too much to the competitive scene and top end players and I’ve called him out on that.
And I find that his idea that if you just play and lose you shouldn’t have rewards is a bad idea. It’s part of the problem, not the solution. It makes people play to win, it’s an incentive to use the matchmaking glitch to accumulate points more and faster. I agree that rewards should be higher if you win but you should get some just for playing. Otherwise, why would I try to play against other good players or even better players than me? I don’t care if I will improve even if I lose, I won’t get rewards. Same in Squad Battles. 0 points if I lose. Max point if I win by 5 goals and get at least 20 shots. Why would I try playing against a better AI? Ill go for a guaranteed win for less points. At least I’ll get something. Rewards should be tied to playing, grinding and participating in the game to keep it salive and interesting, not just tied to winning.
Like, I see players open 3-4 ultimate packs and 1-2 ultimate choice packs EVERY week. I’ve opened a single ultimate pack and no ultimate choice packs ever. I play every day, participate in Rivals, did one HUT champs, GWC (where I was just fodder to good players), partake in the auction house market, etc. I make the game live. I follow HUT content creators (4-5 of them) and participate in the forum here. I make this game alive and regularly propose ideas and analysis of the game to improve player experience. What are my rewards? Div 8 gold rewards in Rivals, Elite 1 rewards in SB. I don’t even get a single purple every week. I can’t make a maxed up MSP in every event, I maxed out only maybe three MSPs and two XFactors. Never pulled an MSP from a pack. I often just get a bunch of gold players and end up making PUCs. So my weekly reward is often just +OVR on XFactors. Period. Other players pull 6-15 purples a week. There’s not much incentive for me to keep grinding and participating in the game’s community.
