Package Loss & Lag

What happens when the bug occurs? package loss from 3/0 to 60/0 (as seen on the performance display in-game) & various strenth of lag/stuttering
What should be happening instead? ... no package loss and no lag, only rage because im bad at game 😉
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? idk, maybe i can link you some of the servers i am experiencing this problem on. I was tracing my connection with TCPViewer, WinMTR and OpenVisualTraceRoute. Let me know what u need for this. I am an absolute amateur with this server stuff, but willing to learn.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BUG OCCURS:

Joining a game, i can allready feel some stutters in the character selction screen. The Package Loss Value can be between 3/0 and 60/0 (as seen on the performance display in-game) and spikes from time to time, but normally stays kinda the same amount the whole game. So if the game started with about 5/0 package loss, it will fluctuate between 3/0 to 10+/0. The lag itself feels sometimes worse on 5/0pl than on 20/0pl, but thats just a little thing i noticed in some few occasions.

I am playing Frankfurt1/2 most of the time and my Internet Provider is Telekom, I am using an FritzBox 7590 with allready customised settings for better network stability, but was experiencing this problem with my previous routers (Speedport 921 and Speedport 925) aswell.

The problem occures more often at prime-time, but will/can happen on less busy times aswell.
prime-time (18:00/6pm to 22:00/10pm): package loss every 2-4rd game
less busy times: package loss every 5th to 10th game
like I said, the intensity can vary alot.

On the new permanent game modes (TDM, GunRun, Control) it happens more frequent, but most of the time with a value of 10/0 package loss (does not fluctuate alot).

This kind of package loss / lag is only occuring within Apex Legends. In Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty, Path of Exile ... everything runs stable.

Friends I play with, will most of the time experience the same problem to a similar degree, but can also happen to be spared and wont have any package loss/lag at all. The same can happen the other way around.

Solutions that have worked for me, but dont work consistantly at all:

- Relog or Relog and change the Data Center/Server (success chance estimated: 15%)

- Use a VPN (success chance estimated: 10%), tried ExpressVPN and am still playing around with ExitLag

I love your game, but having lag this constant/frequent drives me further and further away from spending time and money on it.

  • @MARViNiTy I have the same exact problem, I cannot believe that the support is lacking so hard at the moment.

    Today it was the worst day for me. I had 3 Games package loss in a row, I just quit in the ranked game because I got no patience any more.

    It's hilarious to bring out an heirloom skin without fixing issues like this.
  • @MARViNiTy I‘ve had the same problem with Telekom. First using NordVPN and finding a server that gave me a decent ping to i.e. steampowered.com (should be around 10-15 ms) and then switching my ISP to Vodafone really fixed the problem for me. So yeah, nothing you can do but blame Telekom for poor/bad peering to the EA data center.
  • @cRn1710 Its definitly something bad about Telekom's Routing, but Apex Legends is still the only Game, I have this problem with. So there most definitly is a solution EA/Respawn could apply. In the words of MokeySniper: "Respawn, please fix" 🙂

    @MARViNiTy I think the server-related issues are down to EA to fix, since I had those lags in FIFA aswell. And we know EA - they won‘t pay Telekom any more money than necessary to keep the game running for all the poor Telekom customers.. I‘ll look up the tables so you can understand what I mean
  • So this is the reason for most Telekom-customers having lags on EA servers:

    The data center in Frankfurt, DE-CIX.

    All your Internet traffic (at least the traffic going to Apex servers, which are located in Frankfurt aswell!) is going through this DE-CIX data center.

    When you take a look at the maximum speeds, you'll find that Telekom has a maximum Speed of 110G (Gigabit per second) for ALL customers, whereas Vodafone has two times 600G for all customers.

    One could compare the peering on Telekom with a waterfall (the internet traffic of all the customers) that needs to go through a pinhole (the speed of the connection inside the data center).
