This badly designed game resets my settings every time

Product: Apex Legends
Platform:PC
Please specify your platform model. PC
AMD or Nvidia Model Number 4090
Enter RAM memory size in GB 32
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? Salosieppo
Please provide your squad mates' gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name if possible.
Are you using any software with an overlay? No
Which Legend were you playing (if applicable)? all
Which Legends were your squad mates using (if applicable)? all
Where did the issue occur? In the lobby (waiting area before the match)
Which part of the map or menu were you in? If you don't remember the exact name, please describe the area or what you were trying to do in the menu. all
What were you doing when the issue occurred? E.g. respawning a squad mate at a beacon, using an ability, a squad mate left the game. What ever
Did your squad mates also experience the issue? I don't know
How many matches had you played in a row before the issue occurred? 0
When did this happen? (dd.mm.yy hh:mm) 9.4.2023
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
How severe is your issue? Major impacts to gameplay
What happens when the bug occurs? When game is started from EA App, my command line settings are often cleared to empty. This may have something to do with the fact that i sometimes play also with PS4, PS4 pro or PS5 which one sometimes connected to my PC account. It was a stupid to connect them and assume that EA would be able to handle so complicated situation. Now the settings are cleared so often that most of the times my 1st Ranked game goes to waste beacause of the wrong command line settings (which is +fps_max 300 and nothing else). Just say it out loud that command line settings are someting that player should not fiddle with.
What should be happening instead? U tell me?
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try once, test, dont release untested beta.

All is in the above.

If these command line settings are enabled via the special commands input (Via Steam or EA App) rather than an autoexec would mean that it's probably an issue with the game launcher you're using.

Might fix itself if Steam or EA App is reinstalled, though I don't think Apex itself is the cause of this as the game should not be able to alter these commandline settings from the platform launchers (e.c Steam or EA App)

  • Do you have any folders/files in this directory (%userprofile%\saved games\respawn\apex) set to read-only?

If so, it might make it so the game is unable to save changes to your settings, thus reverting them upon startup.

No, folder is not read only and i did quite recent re-install. I can change the other ingame keybinding settings and save them but quite often the command line settings are cleared.

I might have figured out at least part of the problem. Rage quitting the game (ALT+F4) and then starting it again the next day will results in a missing command line settings. However, question still remains why launcher or/and app would keep the settings file readwrite open when its running.

I will try also reinstalling the launcher (In my case EA app). Thanks for the solution.
