APEX on Linux was slaughtered; EA will lose money

I understand why the decision to end linux support was made given the issues the game was having with cheating at the time. But overall I disagree with the logic, sure linux does allow a higher level of control for the user which could in theory make things easier for cheaters, but the linux user base was always small, any cheater using linux likely chose to cheat on linux instead of cheat on windows, but regardless of the OS, they would have still cheated. The reality is that Anti-cheat software by its very nature is always playing catch-up with cheaters, and due to the games reliance on trusting inputs from players (at least to a certain degree) it is virtually impossible to eliminate cheating altogether, through technical means.

All this leads me to believe that the decision to stop supporting linux was an executive choice. Linux was the smallest user base and EA has never been shy about maximising profits from apex, the added PR buff by claiming to be "combating cheaters" during what was arguably a period of mass player decline also likely played a part.

But that's irrelevant now. What I want is to convince you to once again enable linux support. so i'll appeal to what companies care about; money.

Linux is currently surging in numbers on steam, and will likely reach an all time high very soon with the launch of the steam machines. There will be a bigger market, apex will lose out on initial momentum just because a toggle is turned off.
