Totally disagree! I love the new map, I think it is far better, but I also miss Kings Canyon. They need to put the two into a shuffle or do like some other games, make a select screen and let the players vote on the map they want to play at the beginning of each match.
As for the high ground advantages you speak of...?
I find this map takes a lot of that away, I find pathfinders are far less useful on this map, because most of the high ground ares are accessible for everyone and there are far less OP high ground locations. Most of the high ground locations on the new map offer cover for those on the low ground to hide away from those on high ground. The only major high ground areas I can think of are the main buildings in city centre, over looking the open area to the south and east, but those buildings are easy enough get into; the sniper mountain, which is seldomly much of a factor outside of an occasional final ring, but with zip lines going up to it, it’s also accessible; the crows nest towers all have zip lines going up, and with a crypto it is fun setting the drone underneath and using the emp right before your team zips up 🙂. Really the only spot that is basically only accessible to pathfinder, aside from at the start of the game, is the hanging train cars, but there’s lots of cover around so I have very seldom seen anyone up there aside from early game when someone drops in them.
On the other hand, kings canyon has a lot more areas that are far more exclusive to pathfinders, or are much more difficult for players other than pathfinders to reach, such as: the mountain ridge and skull around skull town, the walls around air base, artillery, and repulsor (especially repulsor), to name a few off the top of my head.
Regardless, the maps need to have high vantage points with long range shot potential, or why have sniper rifles. Pathfinder should have areas that are easier for him to get to than others (Just as all legends should have areas they are stronger or weaker In). It’s part of the challenge of the game and fun of playing certain characters.
Personally, I find there is far less camping in this map, with such a big map, everyone seems to always be moving on to the next circle and those that do camp like the caustics and Watsons, it’s a lot of the same as they would on any map.
- 6 years ago@Sadronan I think there is far more camping on this map, maybe an order of magnitude. This is mainly due to the Charge Rifle, not so much map design. It's just too easy and too much fun to stand on top of a building with a Charge Rifle and laser fools as they try to escape over the horizon.
What I miss about King's Canyon are the behemoth creatures, the flyers, and some of the key map components like Bunker, The Cage, Swamps, Artillery, and Water Treatment. And Market. I miss those areas.
What I particularly don't like about World's Edge is that there are choke points between combat areas and you can't get over mountains or around them except by going through these death alleys. I'm not enjoying the choke points. I *do* like the art design of the new map, the colors and stalagmites and the Tree and the lava are awesome.
I think I'm ready to play both, and I'd love to have King's Canyon back in rotation.- 6 years agoThe real question or debate isn't which map is better ... but WHY does Respawn not give its player base the choice of either map in the lobby???
