1KD is theoretically perfect balance, nothing against it, its up to you then if you would play carefully or recklessly pushing every squad you find and got punished for it.
Pro players would be getting owned in 50% of fights because they would play against other pros. (That would probably depend most on positioning and who is to third party.)
Respawn probably wouldnt like it because of streamers making this game good money, kids wanna see bully squad owning whole lobbies, everyone wants huge YT videos where they can Pred squad bully some casual PUBS, its just human factor at this point. I think people naturally hate fair play trying to avoid it and they complain, calling for fair play only when they are the ones getting owned.
Yeah there is probably many reasons why Apex will never get fair MM.
Thats probly why they dont wanna separate pre-made from solos,
I believe they have their research done and game would probably make less money if fair.
Most players would probably be too desperate in game I guess.
Yeah I think I understand it now, I just needed to really think about it and your post gave me an idea.

Id rather play with same skilled players as I am, than bully whole lobby in one game and get absolutely owned by sweaty pre-made in next one.
Thats why I like PUBG. Very punishing game with tight skill gap where solo players without squads can do better in no-fill matches than with team.
I like dynamic playstyle of Apex Legends, but that MM is really killing fun for me most of time.
The problem is that a "1 KD" strict SBMM would kill the game. It can take up to 5 minutes for me to find a Diamond3-master lobby at peak hours and even longer at off-hours and in those lobbies, the skill variance is much greater than "1 KD". As a matter of fact, most predators are smurfing in those lobbies.
But what I mean was that I think too many people assume that they "deserve" to be able to have 10+ kill games even though they havent put in the time and effort to even deserve it. How can there be a matchmaking that would allow EVERYONE, from the noobiest noob to the sweatiest pro, to have "good" games in most of the matches? Such matchmaking is impossible.
- 3 years ago@Balladalidila dallaballiballas, this is probably the most level headed response I have seen on this subject. But you need to keep something in mind and that is no matter how much you improve your lobbies will "improve" with you. So why improve at all?
Also, people asking for "players at their level" don't realize what that actually mean. it is probably what they are experiencing now anyway - facing your doppelganger most of the time. Imagine a fist fight with yourself, it will be the hardest fight of your life, yet they wanna do it daily? It is not an easy fight to win. Variance in lobbies is the answer imo. aka no mm. This Op had some luck early on yet got owned when he got into the proper lobbies. There is no bs about "broken" lobbies or mm - it is just a matter of being matched against people as good as him. Nothing new here.- Balladalidila3 years agoSeasoned Ace
Being level headed is my specialty. Nah but seriously, I think that forums like this have a tendency to be more about gut-feelings and I guess I try to add some logic to the discussion. Sometimes my logic is wrong but thats another issue hehe.
To comment on the "as you improve, the lobbies will improve with you": I have always been an advocate for NOT applying hard SBMM for pubs/casual modes. Exactly as you say; what would be the reward for grinding this game and improving if you never get to see that improvement in comparison to your competition? So if you have invested time and effort to become, lets say the 80th percentile of the entire player base (perhaps around high Plat/low diamond?) then I think your "reward" should be that you, on average, also are the 80th percentile best player in your casual lobbies. I think they rather should match casual lobbies on premade constellation than skill, especially sorting 3-stacks of high elo players into seperate lobbies.
But isnt this how pubs kinda work right now hehe? Some ppl here on this forum claim that pubs are rigged against you to lose. But I can have generally good games in pubs (avr 3 KD, 15% win rate) as long as I mind my own business and dont try to save brainless randoms. And to conclude my argument: the mode that SHOULD have hard SBMM is ofc ranked, but there, said "reward" is to progress trough the ranks..IMo this should be the difference between ranked and casual. Ranked = hard SBMM with ranking up as reward. Casual = soft SBMM with noticing your improvement as a player as reward.
- 3 years ago@Balladalidila I'd be ok with "loose" mm. Destiny had this and it was fine..I never felt cheated by it. It did it's job by protecting the new players, which is ok as long as we don't screw over the rest of the player base all the time. And they are going a step further to make some modes ping based, instead of their definition of "skill" based. I think that is a good thing overall.
Well yes, pubs is like that - people face better opponents some of the time, and less skilled opponents less of the time. The rest is somewhere in the middle. But it all depends on the bucket you are in, meaning that the range of diversity in skill is not that big, and would be a lot more random if "buckets" was not a factor. It's a soft way of putting players in a certain rank, which, to me, is unfair in a public match. Imo, public means casual, not sweat, so why make the game all about that to begin with? Why only have one mode?
I said this previously and I'll say it again - sbmm was not about skill when it was introduced. It was about ping and automating the process of selecting a server to find a game - initially a good thing. When gaming companies realized they could profit from this system by deliberately placing players in certain lobbies and thus resulted in more playtime things changed. This is a big deal. I see a lot of vids posted these days about people trying to expose this system for being manipulative. With everything ranging from sbmm intentional lag, to sbmm better/worse aa, to sbmm no reg / damage resist etc. Basically real time nerfs to better players some of the time, so less skilled players can feel competent and spend some money. I'm not the kinda guy for tin foil hat stuff, but I would not hold these practices past these companies either. They make compelling arguments to say the least with video evidence too.
