First of all, ranked solos would require a separation from ranked trios, by means of an another point system, so that people won't use one mode to rank up in the other. Also, it would require a totally different balancing on legends, weapons and loot. A lot of divisive changes.
To see true skill popping out, you need to rather add variables instead of removing them. Solos is a dumbed down version of the game, where all is needed is somewhat good aim, camping and efficient third partying. For me, it got boring after one week, I'm sure many more would start whining about it being too stale after a month or so, demanding all sorts of changes to make it feel fresh again and screaming "teamers!" everytime they get shot from 2 directions.
So no, thanks. My vote goes towards solo being a "distraction" (occasional LTM).

@expl0z1vSimply because the distribution of players across the map is different. People complain about scarce loot even in trios. Just imagine landing in an area with a 2-3 loot bins and not finding any weapon, with weaponized enemies in all surrounding areas. The internet will be littered with tears and screenshots of lootbins with 3 armors or knockdown shields, alongside screams towards Respawn to fix the balancing or get its devs fired and such.
