It's a setting for TV displays that will set how much stretching to fit it does based on input resolution.....the switch has a setting for this....I don't think my ps4 does...but I don't play Apex on that at all.

But I know because my laptop connected to my tv requires the tv to do some display manipulation or the bottom gets cropped.  And this manipulation can lose picture quality.

as OP stated it is kinda only an issue with older tv's, newer tv's don't really need this setting.
