skill based match making
Hi, I'm a big fan of Apex. I'm a casual player, but when I play solos, I get killed by preds at least once or twice a day. I've got around 7K kills total. On your skill-based matchmaking page, you say that you might be up against someone with a higher skill level if they have had a bad string of games. But if a Pred gets 100 bad games in a row, he is not on the same level as me, and he shouldn't get to use me as cannon fodder. There needs to be a greater divide between the people who play all day and the casual players.
Also, if I lose a bunch of games, it'll drop me into easier games, but then if I do well in that game, I'll immediately be back with people with +50K kills or master and pred badges. The fact that it changes that quickly means it's not skill-based, at least not in its final outcome; despite you saying you do not aim to OPTIMIZE RETENTION & ENGAGEMENT, that is the result.
As an example, I played a bunch of games earlier and did really badly. I got put into an easier lobby with people much lower in skill than me (which isn't fair on them either), but then I finally got killed by a guy who had 3000 kills for this season (more than I have on any character). Why is he in this lobby? He clearly plays all day! Is there no limit to how much your skill can drop? Does it not make a long-term profile? How can you say that it is not aimed at retention and engagement?
Create long-term skill barriers, shelter more casual players, and grow a greater fan base. It is a great game, but it would be amazing if it were more even and consistent.
