skill based match making

Hi,  I'm a big fan of Apex.  I'm a casual player, but when I play solos, I get killed by preds at least once or twice a day. I've got around 7K kills total. On your skill-based matchmaking page, you say that you might be up against someone with a higher skill level if they have had a bad string of games. But if a Pred gets 100 bad games in a row, he is not on the same level as me, and he shouldn't get to use me as cannon fodder. There needs to be a greater divide between the people who play all day and the casual players.

Also, if I lose a bunch of games, it'll drop me into easier games, but then if I do well in that game, I'll immediately be back with people with +50K kills or master and pred badges. The fact that it changes that quickly means it's not skill-based, at least not in its final outcome; despite you saying you do not aim to OPTIMIZE RETENTION & ENGAGEMENT, that is the result.

As an example, I played a bunch of games earlier and did really badly. I got put into an easier lobby with people much lower in skill than me (which isn't fair on them either), but then I finally got killed by a guy who had 3000 kills for this season (more than I have on any character). Why is he in this lobby?  He clearly plays all day! Is there no limit to how much your skill can drop? Does it not make a long-term profile? How can you say that it is not aimed at retention and engagement?

Create long-term skill barriers, shelter more casual players, and grow a greater fan base. It is a great game, but it would be amazing if it were more even and consistent.

  • Do the devs have any idea how bad the matchmaking is at the moment? It is worse than it has been for years, i’m a casual player and almost every public lobby has 3-stacking top 500 preds or at the very least masters. I’ve raeched plat on multiple seasons but theres no way I can compete with a 3-stacking pred/master squad. Also, the randoms on my team always seem to be like level 50 max, while the champion squad is full of preds/masters. Shouldn’t the devs think about doing something about the matchmaking? I’ve played since launch and for the first time I’m seriously thinking about quitting the game cause the matchmaking is so frustrating.

@Haijy-Hans97 the devs SHOULD think about doing many things, there are many things that need work, some of the the things ASAP like cheaters, matchmaking etc but it really feels like they dont care. all they do is discussing how much money they can charge for the next collections events and which skins should get recolors... its a shame a great game like apex is managed that bad
  • like i said sbmm never ever worked in fps since anti cheat doesn't work therefore it shouldn't exist at all.

Some people still think SBMM exists, well I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Simply because my first ranked match of the day, I was given only one random, and was put into a match where someone was blatantly wall hacking and aimbotting. A lot of the players were plat, and I'm still in silver.

Edited: My next match, I got a bot Lifeline and a level 200 something Fuse that played like they never played a game before in their life.

How I know the Lifeline was a bot? Their movement, looting, and shooting skills. They were walking everywhere, barely looting, not healing, and they were aiming at walls while shooting, (which were walls that no one was behind). The enemy teams were a bunch of diamond players.

The Fuse on the other hand was running everywhere, not holstering their weapon, and pushing too far into fights. They also didn't heal when they got hurt or use any of the pings.

So, in ranked we're suppose to play as a solo? At least this is what it feels like.

  • Matchmaking in this game is absolute rubbish.
I'm on plat 1 and met premade squad with 3 predator every game

@Haijy-Hans97 We'll probably never know because as @ComicBookGuy2727 says, they don't really say anything. They definitely don't talk to the community and never play their own game like the rest of us. They probably play LAN matches amongst themselves so they never really see what crap SBMM is.
