I did 11 kills (would have been 13) and 1810s damage with the spitfire/301 today and still love the gun. I do which it was 20 dps again though.
However, the only issue I have is I have a hard time finding the spitfire and see more Devotions that Spitfires.

Sorry but this proves nothing.
1. You can literally run around only punching people and get 11 kills and 1810 damage if your opponents were bad enough. Does this prove that punching is a viable alternative to using guns? No. You also explicitly stated you were using 2 different guns.
2. No one said that the Spitfire does 0 damage and cannot kill someone. Its stats are OBJECTIVELY worse than other guns however. Its DPS is the lowest among full auto weapons and it doesnt have amazing accuracy. Its accuracy is okay at best while there are other weapons that have both higher DPS AND higher accuracy.
Spitfire litterally killed 10 people while 301 killed 1 person. Yeah...

Clearly a single match against probably bad opponents based on your anecdotal statements proves that the gun is amazing. Brilliant reasoning, thanks for posting.
