Why cheaters and smurfs will always be

Dealing with cheaters involves monetary investment.  Unfortunately for the community its a monetary investment that is a net negative to a company, as it doesn't make you profit.  This is something EA doesn't like to hear.  7 plus months now and it hasn't been addressed.  Sooo they either don't want to spend the money to deal with the problem or they have the data to support player retention time hasn't changed therefore why spend the money.  On top of this ,I doubt its as much, as they are cheaters, but I'd assume some must purchase skins, etc.  Which EA likes.  I mean cheaters got into their professional comps.  How on top of it can you actually be.

As for smurfs lol the idea they are going to ban smurf accounts is probably the funniest thing they have done yet.  You can't even deal with legit cheaters let alone people just making new accounts.  Some of which you stated is legal, I.e rank grind content.  So you can't deal with the cheaters, and now your somehow going to be able to not only deal with smurfs but than also differentiate between a legal vs non legal smirf account. The most important thing however is to remember its EA and money talks.  If people are actually lacking enough intelligence to buy skins, heirlooms, etc. On smurf accounts, or multiple accounts.  Why on earth would they ever ban you.  Imagine buying the same item on 3 different accounts, to maybe be in a slightly easier lobby and I mean maybe.

SBMM = smurfing, this is why its gotten way out of hand on apex and other games that have implemented these matchmaking policies.  And smurfing = $$$$$$$

  • Here's a net negative, stop buying things from the store until cheaters are dealt with.

In fact play scavengers or rogue company.

  • Smurfing is worse this season because the high level ranked scene is terrible. Can consistently get to diamond and any games in Diamond/Master/Pred there is a high chance you'll lose RP to DDoS or to a cheater in the lobby. If I was a streamer, I would be smurfing too since there are directly ego-driven cheating neckbeards messing with my earnings. No one wants to watch ranked games where you get smoked by an aimbot default skin pathfinder... EA cannot pretend this is a great comp game and still take cheating with such a light attitude. One of these cheaters is going to make it into a tourney someday and it will seriously damage the game's esport reputation.

@IMightKickAssThank you for educating me on the origins of smurfing. Yes of course people have made new accounts on all games for many reasons. Been gaming for 2 decades and never have I seen it used to abuse lower skilled people to this extent. Pre-SBMM, you had connection based matchmaking, 100% random skill level. Now in apex you have ranked (unplayable atm due to cheating past diamond) and pubs ranked. Where you will face people around your skill level game after game. People tend to get annoyed by a skill ceiling or atleast the perception of one so they make a new account, stomp on some noobs and after a couple games end right back up in the lobbies their main account would be in. Smurfing is the act of using a new low level account to farm low lobbies, lower skilled players. So I guess how do you think SBMM hasn't catalyzed the smurfing issue? When its clearly ment to keep you engaging equal skilled opponents game after game.

  • I'm at the point where if a player is this good at a low level, the game should auto ban them for smurphing.

Got an alright team in arenas, and the enemy team was this player, a level 27, and a level 19. I thought "either new players or smurphs". All 3 were smurphs and they were using wall hacks as they knew EXACTLY where anyone in my team were at, at any given moment. Two of them were using aimbot, this guy was using strike packs.

Wish they did more than ban people over one curse word.
