Am I doing as poorly as I think?

I've played about 200 games and sadly spent more time waiting for matchmaking than actually in game. My k/d is 0.1 and I'm averaging about 92 damage. Somehow I have 3 wins, two of which I wish I could erase. One was a straight up carry by a solo player, another I was barely involved and was respawned twice.

While not having a background in fps games is a factor, there appears to be a high barrier to get into them. I have seen many suggestions for practicing aiming and movement, improving communication, learning maps and abilities. I try analyze previous games to see where I can improve, I even make it a point to find at least something I did right.

At this point, I'm questioning if practicing is even helping. Every game feels like I'm there to distract enemies and be a human shield. I've gotten into the habit of apologizing to the people that get stuck with me at the beginning of a match.

  • Basically I have to spend years not enjoying the game, in order to start enjoying it?
