I will go first. I was skeptical I would like this but I enjoyed it. I played Maggie and usually went with a PK Sentinel loadout. Yes, I was that person who either plugged enemies from range and then pushed or just simply ran at people. Hitting headshots with the sentinel and getting instant downs is quite satisfying as is two tapping people with a PK.
I also liked that the ring destroyed people who choose to keep fighting even though the ring was clearly coming. It really made you think.
The only negatives I have so far- It is a bit sniperish, for good reason. And I hate not knowing how much ammo I have without opening my bag. I was expecting to see more wingman abusers but did not see that many.
I plan to play this mode tomorrow morning. I watched my tenant across the hall playing on his PS4. At my request, he dropped solo and hid for the first ring. He chose Octane, but after watching this, Ash would be able to see death boxes and have a better idea how many players are remaining. The lack of any information on the HUD is a very interesting idea. This made him very paranoid while playing.
On the topic about the ring. It moves too slow in my opinion. They have 5 minutes to get into the first ring. If it was 2x faster, they would regret fighting outside the ring for long. While he didn't score in this mode, he did survive to #5. This mode doesn't count as a BR on the dailies.
I will post again after I play it first hand tomorrow.
@hayhor
You can bring up your entire weapon HUD by doing an inspect. One issue I have is with their decision to allow you to find out how many squads remain by scanning beacon. It makes it almost a prerequisite to run a recon legend.
All legends should be able to scan beacon if this is the mechanic. It's an LTM, not ALGS. Don't force team comps, please!
I want to pass on a hint that several of my randoms seemed incapable of thinking of. Stop wasting time thirsting!! The only possible reason to do so is if you expect a res otherwise. Which brings up a question. Do you get your armor refilled by doing a finisher?
I played a couple of rounds of hardcore mode last night and it is great.
Ran Vantage and she is just spot on in the mode with the built in two shot knock sniper and then push with your to short ranged weapons to finish teams.
I literally destroyed a whole team and a half with snipers mark and an ult-excellarant.
- @pandareno1999 It's a hardcore mode so I feel like that makes sense. You don't absolutely have to run a recon unless you want the advantage of knowing.
I played 2 matches & so far not sure I like it but I'll play a couple more later to make a decision. - @pandareno1999 Not knowing how many squads are left doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Also having to push inspect weapon is having to press a button to see just like opening my bag. I still don't like it.
Finishing does give your shield back. I finished multiple people last night because of it. And yeah thirsting is simply a waste of time so unless they have a lifeline or new castle I just use the downed guy as bait. - dSKyNafinchin3 years agoHero (Retired)
@hayhorI was also skeptical, but actually enjoyed it last night. Had one of my buddies on as well, which definitely helped. Won our first match (without even seeing the final squad? boring..), and had a few more 2nd place runs in our short session.
I tried the Sentinel the first match, but whiffed every single shot and ended up dropping it for a 301 with about 3 squads left. I need to use this mode to get better at placing my sniper shots, because currently, it's quite the pathetic showing, Lmao! You're dead-on about the PK though. That was quite fun
I like that they at least left our abilities on our HUD. I played quite a bit of hardcore on CoD back in the day, so I'm not bothered by the lack of HUD, but definitely happy to be able to see my cooldowns. My only complaint is that I keep having to check my inventory, which is something I didn't have to do back in the CoD days (not a BR, obviously).
Our last match, I made the mistake of following an Octane off of his pad, and no lie, I got sniped by probably 6-8 different people, simultaneously, Lmao!!! Couldn't even be mad at it. Just died laughing, and waited for my team to die
I'll be playing more today, but was pleasantly surprised when I played yesterday. Also got to play a decent bit on Broken Moon, which I haven't seen much of this season, because I've mostly been crunching challenges in Arenas when I get the chance to play. Gotta get that BP finished@pandareno1999 I'm curious about finishers too, but never had a good chance to try it out last night
- PeterN_UK3 years agoSeasoned AceI kind of like it. I initially thought people would play more carefully, but alas the 1v 3 Pro watch Too many YouTube wannabes are still in business with the down quits again.
The hardcore mode is very much what I'm used to from Escape From Tarkov (EFT). EFT had hot keys to estimate magazine rounds remaining i.e. Half or less estimates etc. But if you're out of inventory ammo in Apex Hardcore and try to reload, you can't tell if really half or just few ammo left. EFT realism is based on a solider who can remove mag and from experience of weight estimating mag size left.
Secondary weapon I am used to sniper. But feel in hardcore it would also be SMG/AR as backup.
I don't want to get too attach and excited over a game mode that is time limited.
Lack of radar does heighten a person towards concentration of surroundings rather than be aware of a map. - dSKyNafinchin3 years agoHero (Retired)
Also, I just remembered the weird on/off status of my team banners at the bottom left (health and whatnot). I didn't pay too much attention to it, but it seemed to just randomly appear and not appear sometimes, regardless of what was going on with us during the match. Not really a big deal, but was definitely weird
