It is official and confirmed by DZK himself. But I think this is an exaggerated drama. Those essays aren't that big of a deal. I've read them and they feel to me as if he was trying too much to shock readers and that's about it. It's a big stretch to call him a racist or misogynist based on those alone, but society is waaay too sensitive right now. Also, it doesn't feel right to me to get fired over something that has nothing to do with his work, so I hope there was something more behind Respawn's reasoning , otherwise this raises some big red flags. What's next, people getting fired for having different religions or political views?
- 4 years ago@DoYaSeeMe Yeah, this is how I feel too.
And I can rattle off a few reasons that I actually don’t like DZK as the head of Apex— none of them involve past essays I didn’t know existed. Getting fired for THOSE things just feels— silly?
Society is in a very weird spot right now. That’s all I will say without going further into any sort of political conversation.
I genuinely wonder how this will impact Apex. I’ve pretty much only played Apex for the past two years but this latest Seer meta really has me looking for gaming enjoyment in other places. Downloaded Splitgate and I’m having a ball. It might be time for me to move on. Hopefully Apex improves though... - OldTreeCreeper4 years agoHero+
@DoYaSeeMe if there is nothing more behind the reasoning by Respawn, they would be opening themselves up to a large legal suit. This strikes me as misdirection. By whom or why I don't know. Conformation and apology by DK seems in the same vein. Time will tell.
@hayhor you didn't start this!

He crossed the line very badly, regardless if he has changed or not, it create toxic environment in work place and apex community , for that reason, he's OUT.
- hayhor4 years agoHero@DoYaSeeMe Well we dont know that those are the real reasons. Maybe he was struggling in his job. Perhaps his attitude towards the community was also how he treated coworkers. We will never know the whole story.

@hayhor I don't know about you but I'm far more interested in what the person who fills his shoes does.
Curious to see if we will see much needed changes or if the same script will be followed.

Well that might be taken as dark humor (but I prefer it with better bad taste), but for someone depicting himself as a "social justice wendigo" if find it ironical.
Yet I think if he was dropped for such reasons when it was already known at the time Respawn hired him it would be an unfair move.
There were other reasons to drop him (someone said he might have been only part of the bad changes but a leader makes decisions and choices over propositions. If propositions are not good enough he asks for reworks. I agree game is not so bad but there were some dubious choices (seer is one, I like some of the ideas but it's like a five years old wrote the list of powers. Some goes for valk. They came from "pretty specific abilities giving three graduated powers" to "all around free lunch abilities" (Valk flight is not better; its almost permanent and reloads very fast. If you're not dumb you won't use it to be a moving target so it negates drawback).
Plus the guy couldn't be open to criticism and this is the worse flaw for someone in his position.
So good he was taken down, but not for such reasons.
